If you could live anywhere in the greater Portland area...
...where would it be?
My Dh and I currently live in San Diego but are seriously considering moving to Portland in the next year. Rather than ask "what's a good area to live in", I'm just curious what area YOU would choose if you had your choice.
Also, this board needs to get moving! My hometown board (norcal) rocks and I'd love to move to Oregon and have an active board, too!
So...as a poll:

Re: If you could live anywhere in the greater Portland area...
Anywhere? I would live right on the Willamette River, in Milwaukie, with a view of Lake Oswego. Close to Meldrum Bar area. In an older house that has been completely remodeled and renoveated inside, with a huge back porch and a private slip for the boat. Gaahhhh that sounds so nice right now!
I'm Jen, I live in Milwaukie/Sellwood, I'm an Exec Asst, and I love to shop! LOL that counts as a hobby right?
Honestly, all of Portland is great. There's a few less than desirable pockets of town, but great neighborhoods all around.
My name is Liane, and I live in Portland. I work as a project coordinator, and I hope to find a hobby again soon - even finishing a good book would be an improvement. I like a more urban lifestyle where I can walk everywhere, so my ideal neighborhoods are Ladd's Addition in SE or near Chapman Elementary in NW.

What part of OR do you live in? I live in SE Portland
What do you do for work? I am an auditor/ receptionist
Favorite hobby? I love any thing in the sun. In Portland they have some great things to do in the sun and rain.
If I had the money I would love to live in downtown. Close to work for me and I love the constant moving down there. I hope that makes sense.
Guess I forgot to answer my own question!!
I currently live in San Diego, hoping to move to OR next summer?
I work for a sports company, in customer service and would love to stay in a similar industry if possible. I love anything outdoors like camping, hiking, etc. I also enjoy cooking and wine drinking!
since I don't live in Portland, my ideal place to move to at first would be somewhere in the downtown area, where I can walk many places and use public transportation easily. I prefer a quiet area near a hip part of town if that's even possible. Eventually, my DH (an elem. teacher) and I would like to own a piece of property in the Willamette Valley area.

What do you do for work? SAHM
Favorite Hobby? I'm with Jen on the shopping. I also love to hike, explore areas of Portland that I'm unfamiliar with, find new restaurants and drink wine.
Where would I live? I'm trying to figure that one out right now. My husband now works in Milwaukie so we're looking to move closer in and are exploring Portland to find that perfect area for us. I'm curious to see replies to this posting!

Live in Tigard, near Washington Square mall, about 15 min to downtown Portland sans traffic, 30 mins with traffic.
?Favorite hobby: photography, hiking, drinking wine
Where would I live? We used to live in SE and I loved that. The Ladd's addition area and Sellwood are great neighborhoods. In NE there are a few nice neighborhoods as well. For someone looking to live in or near downtown I'd say check out NW Portland. The Goose Hollow area is very close to the action and right on the MAX line but still fairly quiet. I used to live in NW proper, near NW 21st and Everett and really loved it there. The only thing that sucked was the on-street parking! If you don't need a car, or find a place with off-street parking, this is a great place to live.?

What do you do for work? Research at OHSU
Favorite hobby? Cooking, DIY, and reading non-fiction
We're really happy in our current neighborhood (Piedmont). The neighbors are nice, there's easy access to grocery stores etc, we're within a couple of blocks of two parks, hip neighborhoods are conveniently only a few minutes away, there's good bus access and great freeway access, and its safe and quiet. We used to live in King, near Alberta Arts. It was okay; it's more hip, but a little sketchy and active.
If I could live anywhere in the metro area, I'd live either in Beaumont (NE) or Hillsdale/Multnomah Village (SW). Beaumont is a pretty, traditional inner neighborhood. Hillsdale and Multnomah Village have the bonus of feeling like they are separated fromt the city, but are still only a few minutes from downtown. They both have cute commercial areas, too. We couldn't afford a house in those areas though
If DH could live anywhere else in Portland, he'd prefer St John's, because it feels like it's own small town. Housing prices are reasonable, but I needed better bus access.
Hi! I don't usually post but I agree that the board needs to get moving.

Work: Special Education Teacher (Elementary)
Live: I currently live in NW (near 21st and Everett) I second the parking complaint!
I am moving to the Pearl (Also in NW)
I love living in a neighborhood where I can walk everywhere. Since we moved to Protland, we have downsized to one car (my DH works downtown and I drive or bike to work in Milwaukie). There are a lot of neighborhoods that allow you to walk to shops, theaters etc. I like NW but would be happy in SE as well.
Hobbies: hiking, running, dancing, reading ...
Just a little bit of a downer note : Elementary positions are far and few between right now. In fact, our district has just let us know that they are letting go 28 elementary teachers. Hopefully the economy gets better but I suggest that your husband interviews before moving.
Dream location: eastmoreland or ladd's addition. 3 story, craftsman, yard, basement etc.
