hotel/transportation info please!

Hello, I'm a nestie from Indiana. DH and I are thinking about coming to St. Louis for July 4th (our anniversary).  We'd like to go to the festivities near the arch, so I have a few questions since its been a few years...

What is the new hotel that just opened near the arch....we hear ads for it on  the radio here...

If we don't stay near the arch, how easy is it getting around?  I know there is a train/metro system, so is it on the line?  And where would you recommend we stay if not near the arch?  What is the cost to ride the metro/train?

When I was last there, we went to piano bar downtown by the river I think...is that still there? Know the name?

Any other restaurant/sight-seeing recs for us?  This will be our first childless trip, but DH's isn't a drinker -I drink a minimal amount-  (and no smoky places, please!) so just looking for laid back/quite/romantic things.

Thanks so much!

Re: hotel/transportation info please!

  • The old Adam's Mark Hotel is now a Haytt, there is also a Hilton Ballpark Village close by. I'm a huge fan of the Westin, next door to the new stadium.

For restaurants go to www.saucemagazine.com they have pretty decent search set ups for you to look at restuarants based on location, food type, independent vs chain etc.

Have a great time in STL. I'm sure it will be quite warm :)

What is the new hotel that just opened near the arch....we hear ads for it on  the radio here...I'm guessing you are referring to Luminere.  I've never been so I can't offer any suggestions.  Honestly you might have problems finding hotels anywhere near downtown since they get booked almost a year in advance for the 4th of July celebrations.  You might have better luck staying close to the airport or south.

If we don't stay near the arch, how easy is it getting around?  I know there is a train/metro system, so is it on the line?  And where would you recommend we stay if not near the arch?  What is the cost to ride the metro/train? The Arch is on the Metro line.  See above as for places to stay although if you looking to stay close to the metrolink line, you might want to try around the airport (Lambert) although really the line isn't close to any of the stations.  (we are not a transit friendly city)  It's something around $2 a person I think...

When I was last there, we went to piano bar downtown by the river I think...is that still there? Know the name? The Big Bang is the dueling piano bar on the landing.

    Thanks so much!

  • Becca - we'll have a car, I just thought it would be easier if we used the metro due to parking and the crowd.  But if you have parking suggestions for the festival, I'll take that too!
