St. Louis recs

Hey girls!  We're trying to plan an anniversary trip....please help!

Hotels?

Eating?

Things to do?

And what do you know about the train/metro thingy?  Please share!

TIA!

Oh, going over July 4th weekend (in case you didn't recall my anniversary date!) :)

Re: St. Louis recs

  • we stayed at the sheraton and it was really nice. for restaurants we went to the area know for it's italian and had the best italian food ever. there is a mom and pop restaurant on every corner. I think it's called " the hill"

i don't know for things to do we went for the body worlds exhibit.

I thought you were going to ask for things to do while at convention :)

  • Zoo, budweiser plant tour, cards game (if you're a sports fan).  If you've never done the arch at least take a look in the museum at the bottom.  going up in it is kinda overrated. and expensive.  Union Station is pretty blah, as well.

My aunts and I took a double decker bus tour last year.  It was really neat, the had specific stops and you could jump on and jump off at will.  during the ride the guides did a history of STL thing.

We also did a ferry trip that was essentially the same thing.

The nightlife is mostly downtown, in  a specific area thats name is escaping me, but you take a walking bridge to get over there, i think its the EATS bridge.

Live on the Levee is apparently going on over that weekend, too.  Free concert.

    Have fun!

  • What a great post!  This will also help me!  I am going to be in St. Louis for a week in mid July.  It will give me some ideas on what we can do in the evening!  We however will be at a conference so it might not be as fun!  Thanks!
  • We usually stay with Shane's parents or friends so I dunno about hotels.

As far as eating out... there are tons of great places but we usually end up on the Hill or traditionally italian part of STL. Also try my personal favorite, Fitz's Root Beer (near SLU and the zoo, etc). BEST root beer ever... the food is okay... american burgers and fries and stuff but it's a neat area of town and a little part of STL history.

As for things to do my personal Favs include; the zoo, it has spoiled me on every other zoo for the rest of my life, simply the best! and its free!!!! The STL Science Center near Barnes Jewish Memorial Hospital, gotta visit the arch and the westward expansion museum, also the Budwiser tour because it really shaped STL... goodness!! Seriously, one of my favorite towns in the world. I love STL!!! oh and Grants Farm!!!

Since you are going during the 4th I suggest booking now because they have so much going on getting a room can be tough.

We have only ever taken the train from McKinnery College stop (east of east st. louis) but you can go lots of places downtown with it... not sure about how easy it is to traverse around the park area, etc...

if yo have any specific questions or want to know more about any of my favs just page or email me ;)

  • Thanks girls...this really gives us some ideas.  I've been there a few times, but the most recent time was for soccer in college (not playing...so the other athletic trainer and I hit the bar scene down by the river).

Steph - I didn't even know the convention was there....I'm not a member right now, but I do need CEUS and I just got the IATA Symposium, so I'll be at that one.  I just went back to work this week...doing coding/sales for a home-health company.  Boring desk, but decent money and good hours....I've had a horrible time trying to get anything primarily ATC since I've been off so long.   anyhow....I'll email you sometime
