NOLA nestie needs recs

We have an opportunity to move out of this hell-hole of a state.  DH has a friend in Burns, TN.  We would want to live kind of close (within an hour) of Burns.

I am a teacher (on the outskirts of New Orleans) and am sick of urban, city schools/kids/parents.  Can you recommend a nice family town, kind of country suburban, but less rural than country?  I want a nice neigborhood, minimal crime, could sleep with your doors unlocked (not that I would) kind of place.

I would say either Thompsons Station or Spring Hill (they are pretty close to each other) sound right up your alley. ?It looks like they are both about an hour from Burns, as well as less than an hour from downtown Nashville. ?While both areas are definitely growing, they are excellent "family friendly" towns with reasonably prices housing and good school systems. ?I would say "country suburban" would be a fairly accurate description.

I think there are several ladies that post on here frequently that live in the Thompsons Station/Spring Hill area, so they could probably answer any questions you might have. ?I actually live in Franklin, which is probably 20 miles or so north of that area.

Here is a link to a local MLS search, if your are interested.

  • thanks for replying.  I posted some more specific questions on some teacher forums and Franklin (Williamson County) was actually one of the places highly recommended.

Do you like where you live?

Clarksville-Montgomery County was also popular...what about this place?

We really love where we live. ?We actually just bought a house in Franklin at the end of December. ?The one issue that some people have with Franklin is that housing tends to be more expensive than most of the other Nashville suburbs. ?Not sure if that is a concern for you or not, just thought I would let you know.

As for Clarksville, there are definitely some nice neighborhoods in that area. ?We have friends that live in Adams (which is just south of Clarksville, but still in Mont. Co.), and they seem to really like it. ?I would caution you to be careful about where you look in Montgomery Co., as their crime rate tends to be a bit higher than some other areas.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • I'm not familiar with Burns, but we live in Mt. Juliet, which is a suburb of Nashville (about 10-15mins east from the Nashville Airport and 20mins from downtown Nashville). It took me awhile to get used to the fact that people leave their doors unlocked all the time here! :) We have an alarm system that just came with our house when it was built and we've never activated it....we live in a neighborhood where everyone knows each other's names and kids names...and many of our close ones have keys to our house to feed our dog if we're working late or if we left something on, etc.

Again, took some time getting used (we are from Las Vegas/So. Calif), but it's been nothing but great. :)

  • Mt. Juliet is beautiful, I have hopes of buying a house there one day...

Williamson county is supposed to have a great education system,. and right now Tenn is starving for teachers.

I hope you find what your looking for.

  • We live in Thompsons Station. The difference between TS and Spring Hill is that TS is a bit more "rural." There are still tons of neighborhoods, and honestly, TS and Spring Hill are pretty much connected!

The schools are great in both areas (and anywhere in Williamson County). There is a pic of our house (and views) in my bio.

If you have an specific questions, please let me know!

We LOVE living here! It is just "country" enough and still close to the Interstate and all shopping and things like that.
