I'm sorry you're still thinking about my marriage post yesterday.  I haven't yet responded to my friend yet because I want to come up with something thoughtful.  Even if his mind doesn't change I'm happy that he was willing to have an open and honest conversation with me.

Also - can you please call my DW and tell her to get her ass working on her dissertation!?!  She is procrastinating and needs to get her butt in gear so she can graduate in December.  When do you anticipate being finished with yours?

Just chiming in (ahem - butting in) as a dissertation widow. I am told we have at least another 2 years of this. BLECH.   How long is it taking you (or DP) to write theirs?

My wife just finished her classes last fall.  She wants to have it done by August so she can make sure everything is in order by December for graduation.  Only now that it's summer and she's not teaching she isn't focusing on her writing.  I'm giving her a bit more time but then she seriously needs to get her butt in gear.  And she knows that - she keeps commenting on how she really needs to start writing again.

That is impressive. L started her PhD is 1999!  She finished her coursework in 2005, but took off 3 years b/c of the kids. Now she is trying to schedule her writing around her FT job and the kids (and oh, yea, me!) I will be cheering from the rooftop when she finishes and walks.

I hope to finish the writing by September,  and that gives me a December graduation date. I told myself that I am not going to stress about the formatting until September.

I made the mistake of taking a job right before I defended my proposal...big mistake. I tell all the interns...FINISH YOUR DEGREE! I have been writing almost 2 years (off and on). Christine told me she wasn't going to let us pay for another semester unless she saw progress...it worked...smile.

Two*True, would you like to ask your DW if she is up for a challenge ? If so, let her know that a dissertation buddy would like to challenge her. The challenge I'll propose is for her to match my writing hours 3/4's of the way. That means all she would have to write today is 3 hours. (I'll start her off light .) The hours don't have to be consecutive, they just have to happen within a 16 hour span. Two*True, you would be the judge on your end and TWB would be the judge on mine. Would you kindly let me know if she accepts the challenge?

I love that idea!  I know she is planning to spend most of tomorrow working on it.  She's napping at the moment but I'll ask her if she's up for the challenge and get back to you :-)
