Ideas for 1 year anniversary trip

What did you ladies do for your 1 year anniversary?

We only have a few hundred to spend since DH just found work again recently so going to any beach is out since hotels are a bit expensive this time of the year.  (I think we will kick ourselves for the rest of our lives getting married 5 days before 4th of July which is the most expensive travel week of the year!)

Normally we're big time campers, but I soooo don't feel like dealing with packing camping gear and setting it up.

 TIA!

Re: Ideas for 1 year anniversary trip

  • We went to Newport Rhode Island and had an amazing time! ?We stayed at the Jailhouse Inn, which was right in the middle of town, perfect to walk around. ?www.jailhouse.com ?
  • We did a long weekend at Niagara Falls.  It was a nice trip, but I don't know if you can pull it off for a few hundred dollars.  I can't remember how much our hotel room was.  I think it was less than $100/night.
  • We drove to Tennessee and stayed in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area in a cabin. I believe that Charlene and Jen had done this as well and gave me the idea. It was beautiful down there and the cabin was so nice. They are fairly inexpensive at around $100-$150 per night and you can take your own food which would help save you money. We loved this trip!

  • What about staying at a really nice hotel (maybe Hotel Hershey??) just for one night.  Indulge with a nice dinner and maybe a couples massage.  Sometimes it is fun to stay local and feel like you are the tourist.

Personally DH and I did not go away for our 1 year anniversary.  We had just moved into our townhouse and had already planned a trip to Punta Cana for August (We were married July 1st.)  We went out for dinner and exchanged gifts.  He got me tickets (paper) to see "Dancing With The Stars.  Remember it is the small moments that really mean the most.

  • We went to Baltimore and did a dinner cruise through Spirit Cruises on the Harbor, then stayed the night at a hotel downtown.
  • We just celebrated our one year anniversary Memorial Day weekend, so I know what you mean about how they raise the price up for everything that weekend!!  We stayed at the http://chesapeakebay.hyatt.com/  for 3 days, it was very nice!!

Ditto!  I haven't checked the website lately but I'm sure there are excellent deals and packages available now due to the economy.  We loved our trip to TN and often talk of going back.  Our cabin was awesome and the scenery was beautiful (we went in the Fall, but I'm sure its just as breathtaking year round!) and overall it was a pretty inexpensive trip.  Hope you find somewhere fun to go to celebrate your 1st year :)

  • Thanks for all of your ideas ladies!  We're going to camp near Lewis beach on that Saturday and then stay in a hotel for a few days during the week.  We're more about spending money to do fun things.  My sister in law's cousin owns the jet ski rental place near the Rusty Rudder & Lighthouse so we're all about that.  I'm still in shock that I convinced DH to go to the beach!!!!
