Stretchmarks...

So, I've been pretty much covered in stretch marks since I was like 12. I wasn't all that fat at the time, I was actually pretty skinny, but my mum thinks it was due to a huge growth spurt. Anyways, in the past six months I have gained an enormous amount of weight (about 45 pounds!) and have gotten even more stretch marks, but I'm now dieting and exercising (though the exercise is on hold right now due to a heart condition). If I can get the weight off is there any chance I can get rid of the stretch marks? I'm so self-conscious about my weight (and the marks) and if I lose the weight and can't lose the marks, I'm probably still going to feel bad about myself.

 Any advice or suggestions?

Re: Stretchmarks...

  • Well,, I have a lot of stretch marks from my pregnancies.  Overall, they don't go away but will fade in time.  This doesn't make me happy.  Besides starting a "Stretchmarks  Suck" club I don't think there is much we can do.  Sad

    sadly, ditto.
  • Yes, unfortunately, I haven't found anything that works. At least that I can afford!

I've had mine (on my hips) since puberty too, and I've still got them, over 20 years later.  Luckily, the only time you can see them is when I'm wearing a bathing suit, so I just try to find suits that cover them as much as possible.

  • Mederma works great for stretch marks and scars. It is NOT an overnight solution and can take months. You apply it every day. It may not make the stretch marks completely disappear, but they will fade. It works as well as silicone sheeting. (I use silicone on some old scars, and it's been great.)  It's about $30/tube and can be found at most drug stores. If it's not out, ask behind the pharmacy counter.

  • Thanks guys! My mum tells me if they are red (which all of mine are) that they will go away, but I never found anything that said that...

I will look into the Mederma...it's at least worth a try.  :>

  • I feel you! You know what S.R. products really helps me a lot. It's a Canadian company active in the skin care field (Dermaceutics). I know it's quite expensive but worth a try. here's there website, http://skinrepairsolution.com/ I hope this will help

  • My mother has tried with many creams and products but nothing has helped her. But as time goes on, they got disappeared on their own over time. Gradually they turned into red and got disappeared.

I can't stand all the chemicals though. I made my own stretch mark cream with essential oils and it helps a lot. My stretch marks are super thin and pale skin color.
