help me think of job possibilities....

I think I am getting ready to get screwed out of unemployment so I will need to find an additional job to my online teaching that I'm doing part-time.

There isn't really anything in the enviro science or journalism fields, so I'm trying to think of options that don't require a lot of training.

Unfortunately I am going through PT for sciatica right now, so my food service options would be limited in order to decrease the chances of flair ups.

I am looking into a distribution center, phone customer service, other retail positions........ any suggestions?

Since most of these will be minimum wage, any options that you can think of on the W or S sides of town? TIA!

Move along, nothing to see here.....

Re: help me think of job possibilities....

  • I don't think we're in the same city, so I don't know what is around you, but I hear that Sam's Club starts out at above minimum wage.

  • I'm doing some temp work right now and most of what they have had me do has been receptionist type of work.  There really isn't a lot unfortunately right now, but they have been trying to find me more work.  The nice thing about it is they are pretty much finding me work in my county so I don't have to travel too far.
  • Thanks ladies!

I'm frustrated because I've applied for state seasonal jobs related to my line of work and have been turned down. I was just turned down by Gander Mountain's distribution center and the application was submitted barely 12 hours ago :/

    Damn!

  • Argh!!! job hunting sucks!!!!

I would try temp places, could you add some additional classes or schools to your teaching? What about a print shop or book binder with your graphics skills that could be good? The are also some temp places that read over ISTEP and similar essay type tests that need humans to read them so it's not perminant but might be an option?

     I'll keep racking my brain.

  • What about tutoring?  Sylvan is the only place I can think of off the top of my head, although I have no idea if there is one located in Indy.  When I lived in TH they were always looking for tutors for SATs.
  • Have you thought about recruiting?  Most firms only require a Bachelor's for Jr. level (base is usually around 25-30k) positions and they don't care what it is as long as it is completed.  It's hard work, but if you are outgoing, driven, like talking to people especially on the phone it can be a great job.  It takes about 6 months to really learn the ropes (don't give up until at least this point), but the bonuses get addicting once you start placing people.  Educational recruiting pays the least since they can't offer bonuses, but IT and medical can be good money at staffing firms.  Monster seemed to have a lot of postings for Indy.

  • Thanks ladies!!!!
