I've made them for friends in the past, and usually end up spending $50 or so on supplies.  (You could spend less, or more, depending on how elaborate you want it to be.)  Page me if you want directions.

I helped make one (we used cloth diapers) from instructions we found on google. It was easy and cost about 35 dollars but ours was "designer" (aka tall and skinny with travel size goodies)... they can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you would like and are fun to make :-)
