My DH has lived here for 10 years and the carpet is NASTY!  I am going to replace it in the next month.  Any recs on where to go?  TIA!

Re: please recommend a place to buy carpet

  • We used Lowes and had a good experience.  I know they are also currently offering $99 installation for the whole house.
  • Lowes is great and if you go to thier website you can request a 10% off coupon to use on purchases up to $5,000.

  • we got a quote from lowes and then went to Murphy Carpet and they were over 300.00 cheaper!  I'd highly recommend them.  They're off hwy 30 in Fenton/High Ridge area.  We've used them a couple times now and they've been great all around.

Definitley shop around!  Lowe's was the most expensive (in our case).

  • With the investment properties that I renovate, I use a company called Key Carpets.  They specialize in neutral carpeting and are able to keep their costs down because the operate by appointment only or they will come out to your location to take measurements.  This means that they don't have to deal with the cost of keeping a showroom open 40+ hours a week.  They  have everything from low cost berbers to frieze.  They are definitely worth a try.  www.keycarpet.com

They have sales representatives based on your area.  I've always worked with Rebecca in the past.

  • For our basement, we used GCO.  For the most part we were pretty pleased with them.

Ditto the pp.  Definitely check around.  We found GCO to be the cheapest, but that may not be the case anymore.

Some other places we checked were Lowe's, Home Depot, The Remodeling Room (they were very close to GCO's price and was willing to do a little price negotiation), Becky's, Edwards, and Troy Furniture and Carpet (they were REALLY high).

     HTH!

  • Definitely check around.  We were really happy with Lenny's Carpet in Collinsville, IL.  The installation was pricey, but we more than made up for it in the cost savings on the carpet.

The Lowe's $99 deal is good for installation, but if the carpet and pad costs twice as much, you're still paying more in the end, you know?
