San Diego Fair

My husband and I might be going to the San Diego Fair this weekend (or later this month).  Have any of you gone before?  Do you have any recommendations of what to see/do (or what to not waste our time on)?

Thanks!

Re: San Diego Fair

  • I have only been once.  I really enjoyed the photography exhibit.  I'm not sure if you were going to go more than once but they have a "season pass" good for all 22 days of the fair for $22 but you have to purchase your ticket by June 11.
  • never been.  we're planning on going this time.  i'm curious to what THE food thing is here.  in the twin cities, it's food on a stick.  candy, alligator, whatever they can deep fry & push a stick into!  IDK, maybe that's every county/state fair?
  • Thanks for the input!

I saw an article in the newspaper about the fair and they mentioned all sorts of deep-fried nonsense.  I found a link to the "New Food" at this year's fair so you can read all the appetizing (or not) treats they'll have.  I don't think I'll be trying the "Zucchini Weeni" or "Deep Fried Cheese Curds."  Oy.

  • I always go with good intentions of seeing displays, hot tubs, and playing games but for some reason we always end up in the tecate beer garden drinking and listening to whomever is on stage playing/singing - I love it! ?Of course this beer garden is extremely close to all of the wonderful food!
  • Oops,

Sorry I should mention the fries are sooo good, kettle corn too! ?For those seeking a more extreme experience there are deep fried snickers, coca-cola, and there used to be a chicken sandwich that replaces the bun with 2 krispy kreme doughnuts - not sure if this one is still there this year or not!

  • I always go through the vendor exhibits and look at the crazy things they're hawking each year (bought some Cutco knives at a great price a few years ago!). I LOVE the BBQed corn on the cob and this year I really want to try the deep friend mex ice cream and the zucchini fries... YUM. I haven't been on the rides since I was in high school but had a blast when I did go on them. Don't play any of the games though... those carnie's (sp?) rip you off if you aren't a kid (and sometimes they even rip the kids off!)
