DH and I are going on our first post-baby romantic weekend getaway to Chicago July 10-12th. Due to me not understanding the workings of Priceline's "name your price" we are staying at the Marriott in the Medical District. The 10th I bought Cubs tickets for the 1:00 game, but other than that, we have an open schedule Thursday night, all day Friday and all day Saturday and we'll leave around dinner time. So far I've figured out we'll take the Northern Indiana Commuter Train in from South Bend Airport and we'll purchase a 3 day visitor pass for the CTA since we're 3 blocks from an El station. We're not really into museums, and I'm not really interested in shopping at places we have at home. Any suggestions for off the beaten path places to go, unique shops, antique stores, hole in the wall restaurants, cool neighborhoods to just walk around and look at the houses? Also, I'd love to hit up a farmers market before we leave, any suggestions?
Re: Chicago Trip July 10-12
Because we're fancy like that.
July is a great time to visit Chicago! Check out the summer festival list here:

There are several events during the weekend of your visit that could be fun to check out. Also, your hotel is right by the blue line, so you will be able to get downtown really easily. I definitely suggest checking out Millenium Park with the giant "bean" sculpture and ampitheater. Check out this website for info. on concerts in the park while you are here:

Magnificient Mile (N. Michigan Ave., north of Millenium Park) is fun to see although it is touristy and does have lots of big department stores. I recommend heading up to the 95th floor of the John Hancock Tower to the bar at the top. There is no admission fee for the view, but there is a full bar up there with a yummy martini menu. The views are hard to beat. I also recommend a place called "Wow Bao" in the Water Tower Mall for a cheap and delicious lunch if you are on the Mag. Mile.
As for neighborhoods that are great to walk around in, I am partial to the neighborhood my husband and I are moving to in July: Lincoln Square. It is really cute with lots of unique restaurants. You can walk for blocks and blocks without seeing a "chain restaurant or store." Lincoln Park and Wrigleyville are also great places to check out. Have fun!
