Just wondering what you girls average a week or month in groceries? My DH and I (more him!) are trying to budget our money and this is one thing I think we can lower. We go out to eat ALL the time which is horrible but I think we also over grocery shop. What is normal for 2 people...I have no sense of normalcy when it comes to shopping!
TIA
Re: Grocery bill?
We spend about $200/month on groceries. We also spend about $80/month on eating out/take out (including fast food and pizza), but we always use BOGO deals or coupons. I'm trying to get this portion of our budget under control, but I like a lot of fresh fruit and veggies in the summer which adds a bit more to my total. I plan on hitting up some farmer's markets this weekend since I hear they are a lot cheaper and better quality.
I still can't figure out how people spend so little on groceries....we spend about $125-$140 a week and that's shopping at walmart....we eat all healthy so that makes it a little more I guess. I spend about $40-$50 at walmart for the basics and then another $25-$30 at the butcher for our lunch meat and other meats and then $15 at the fruit stand...the rest is at Sam's club for the bulk stuff we use a lot.
I use coupons and right lists and I can't seem to get it any lower without us starving
I can't figure it out, either! We spend anywhere from about $100 - $160 every week. Sometimes I can stretch it to 10 days and if I have to, I'll wait 2 weeks. We almost always make a list and use coupons and I always use my supercard.
Right now my H does the bulk of our grocery shopping because I'm not there during the week so I have no idea what he spends. Hopefully that will change really soon if my new school for September passes their inspection tomorrow. But that might mean our grocery bill goes up.
I went grocery shopping with my mom last week and saw a couple's total go up to about $700. I was shocked. There was only 1 kid with them and I wanted to ask if there were a dozen more at home. It's not like they had to stock up for winter but hopefully they don't shop very often. Yikes!
I try to keep my grocery bill around $130 every 2 weeks (I budget $300/month). I started going every 2 weeks because I get $15 off recycle bank coupons for Acme if I spend $100. I use other coupons, too and I buy whatever is on sale. I don't buy organic fruits/veges. In the summer, I get my produce from the farm stands or my parents.
That bill is mainly for cooking 4 nights/week and stuff for lunches and snacks. We normally eat out Fri-Sun - pizza one night, go out the next. I think I budget about $400/month for eating out right now, but that will lower once the baby is here.
We spend a little over $100/week, although I can cut that way back by going to Sam's club and buying our meat in bulk then freezing it in smaller packages. I also buy more frozen veggies and steam them, fresh produce goes bad so fast!
For things like toilet paper and laundry soap I also buy bulk or when our brands on sale I stock up.
Our biggest expense is soda, which I don't drink, but DH doesn't drink coffee, and his soda is NEVER on sale or at Sam's, so I pay $5 for a 12 pack.
Guess we really don't spend as much as I thought we did. That makes me feel a bit better!
