I've lived here all my life, and never been to any of the chicago beaches. every year I say I'm going, but haven't.
First - which beach(es) should I go to? I know there's two north of downtown, but don't know the names. where should I park? parking cost? how far is the walk to the beach? what time do you recommend I arrive to get decent parking near enough to walk with all the crap?
thanks!!!
Re: beach 1st timer
North avenue beach is the most popular one. There is parking by the restaraunt there (the on land boat), Castaways. I'm not sure what the parking fees are.
I often park at Recreation Drive (further North) there is a free lot behind the tennis courts, and then bike up to North avenue beach (this would be a really really long walk, and it sounds like you are going to be carrying a few things).
There is also a beach at the Montrose exit, and you can usually find metered quarter parking along that area, but North Ave. Beach is better, IMO
