We would like to do a once in a lifetime trip to Fiji or New Zealand.

OOH Fiji or New Zealand sounds great.
DH and I have very different tastes in travel. I love the tropics... he'd rather go on a cruise to Alaska... We're goign to alternate years... we both want to travel to Europe together though. I've been several times but he has not.
My absolute dream vacation is taking my mother to Australia. When I was REALLY little, much younger than she thought I would ever remember, I remember her telling me how she wanted to go to Australia before she died and when I grew up and had more money than I knew what to do with I could take her...
I have a HORRIBLE memory, but I remember right then telling myself I HAD to remember that and so every night when I went to bed for seriously YEARS I reminded myself about it so I would never forget...
I have about 5k saved up now for the trip (it's in a separate account... not in our "buying a home" fund or retirement or my husband and my vacation fund... this is specifically earmarked for the Australia trip. I figure it'll probably take about 15k to really "do it right." Has anyone ever been?
