help needed for location for a 'business casual' reception

Hi ladies - I am need of some Kansas City nestie help. My workplace will be hosting an evening reception for about 200 people in late May of 2010 & I am seeking your input for location ideas...it's really tough to know this stuff from Canada / through the internet! Any ideas suggestions would be great. We may even get to go on a scouting trip, but that is still to be decided.

It would be best if we are close to the convention centre, but we are open to ideas.

If there are places that you feel we should REALLY stay away from, you can also email me privately at melanieblake at gmail dot com.

thank you!

Melanie

  • MY fave place right now is http://www.feastsoffancy.com/.  (i hope that web site comes thru) it is feasts of fancy in KC.

It is really close to downtown, only like 5 min. away by the river.

They have the best food I have had at functions.  I tasted it last year a couple times...at a fundraiser for a local women's shelter.  And, I went to a function in their building for another fundraiser...anyway, they refurbished a cool old brick building and have wedding and things in it.  I know they are pricey, but totally worth it.

Also, my good friend is a waitress for them part-time. ha

Also, you might try Lydia's (great italian) and Jack Stack BBQ (fancy place with my fave bbq) =)

    Good luck.

  • There is also the Kauffman Center near the plaza-it is a gorgeous facility and they have on site catering that is FABULOUS. Great parking, great technology if you need it for presentations or anything.

This is a list put out by the KC Star of banquet facilities. It should give you a good starting place. HTH!http://www.kansascity.com/static/pdfs/kcstars/banquetfacils2008.pdf

    Good luck!

  • Thank you both! this is great information! We have a conference call today to learn more details, but I am excited because it's sounding more & more like I will be coming to Kansas City (maybe twice!). I really appreciate your thoughts - it's so tough without some input from people that have been to venues & experienced them.

    thanks again,

    Melanie
