Anyone been to Scholars lately?

I just wanted to know what it is like since the new change took place and since now they have a new executive chef?

Re: Anyone been to Scholars lately?

  • I was wondering that too. They were supposed to be open in Feb. and I was going to suggest a GTG brunch there, but then the schedule was delayed

Hm, maybe we should schedule a Sunday brunch there to find out :)

Move along, nothing to see here.....
  • I just read some reviews and they are defintely mixed.
  • I've heard good things but I haven't been there to find out for sure :(
  • Rob and I went for drinks, not dinner.  I couldn't go upstairs becase there was a private party going on, but downstairs was much more more posh... very nightclubbish.  The seating area in back is much more private... lots of booths and seems much smaller/cozy.  I like that change.  Outside patio is exactly the same.  We had our drinks in the bar/lounge area.  It was OK- more posh, but there were still a few touches that made it seem like they've got a ways to go.  For example, they have one of those bar dishwashers and when they turned it on to clean classes, it made a low rumbling roar.  Almost hard to talk over it at the bar.  Also, there is so little light in the waitstation that they sit out on the seating area in the bar to add up their bills and figure out tickets... and eventually end up socializing.  Makes it seem like they have taken over there, ya know ? The Bar Menu seemed innovative and I liked my fru-frui cocktail.  (but hated DH's... although it was bourbon or something)  Prices were a little higher than when it was Scholar's Inn, but still not bad.  I'm not sure if they're still doing brunch or not.  You might want to check the website.

But I'd be up for brunch elsewhere!  City Cafe downtown or maybe Hoaglin to Go!

  • Some friends and I went a few weeks ago and it was good but totally different.  I'll start by saying this was one of my girlfriends' and my favorite restaurants to grab a drink and a meal for happy hour.  With that said the menu has changed a bit, and their martini list has changed(I think just the names though maybe?)  They got rid of some of our favorite items and after waiting 20 minutes(literally) for anyone to come to our table to even greet our table/take a drink order we complained and the owner came to our table and apologized/bought us our first round.  He stopped by several times and ended up having the chef make us bananas foster(our favorite dessert - wasnt on the menu anymore at that time) on the house.  Awesome!  I was very impressed with the service after we complained - but if we hadnt I would have been dissapointed.  The decor is also totally different but not necessarily bad.

FWIW the owner said basically they had no choice to change the restaurant - it was either change or close.  So I'm glad they didnt close! :)

  • I was there a few weeks ago for Sunday brunch- I love the new look, but my food really wasn't that great.  I definitely want to go back before I pass final judgement.  FYI: I used to go quite frequently for lunch since I work downtown.  They are no longer open for lunch on the weekdays (not sure about weekends)- what a disappointment!
  • The menu just quite frankly sucks. I won't be going anymore and it was by far my fave brunch restaurant. It's all eggs!
