Hi all! I recently got married (May 23) and am getting ready to start the name change process. I didn't find anything super clear online about how to get started. Do you guys have any tips? I already picked up the marriage certificate.
Re: Changing my name??
Congrats!
Take your marriage certificate to the social security office. They will legally change it there and give you the form that you take to the DMV to get your new license.
For your passport, http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738_2.html, that site will tell you what to do.
Get official copies of your marriage certificate, you may need them to change your name on other documents.

I just changed mine last week. I went first to the DMV and showed them a copy of my marriage certificate. They issued me a new license and id card with my new name. I then went to my bank and picked up some forms that my husband had to sign. You might want to call your bank to see if you both have to be present. Finally, I then went to the social security office. I sat for two hours there so bring a book.
Once I got home, I contacted my credit cards, frequent flier accounts, car and home insurance and student loans and notified them of my new name. I just checked on their website about how to change my name. Some of them wanted a signed form and some just changed it over email.
To keep me organized, I made a list of everything that needed my name to change and marked off what I had done.

I'm so jealous. I was at the downtown one so if you could, avoid it.
