Ok, I need to vent.
So we don't have too many weddings this year, but one of my long-time, childhood friends is getting married in October in Treasure Island (near st. petersburg, FL). She was my MofH in my wedding, so there is really no skipping this one.
I just priced out how much it will cost for us to go down for the Sunday wedding.....$900 - 1000!!! I mean, really?? Airfare, car rental, hotel. Not to mention the hotel they are getting married at - they offer 2bd suites for 4 adults only at the discount rate. And of course, to further irritate me, our other good friends (and only other people we really know going to this small small wedding) are rooming with someone else. So we are looking for another hotel, which is fine. But its all just very aggravating.
Oh did I mention our Save the Date got lost in the mail. And since she realized this over a month ago, we haven't received another.
DH and I were really looking forward to possible visiting San Francisco (for the first time) this september, but not with the cost of this one day wedding. Unless I can figure out how to visit SF with just the cost of airfare, its not looking very promising. ![]()
Re: wedding season is soooo frustrating!!
Oh no!! That stinks about the hotel.
Can she give you suggestions for other, less expensive hotels? Hopefully you'll have a heck of a good time though!! Can you turn it in to a longer weekend and have that replace your SF trip?
DH and i have to forego the 1st Anniversary trip we wanted to take this year cuz of all the weddings we have to go to.
We wanted to go to Greece for our honeymoon, but of course, couldn't afford it. And we still can't this year! Here's our wedding/travel sched:
-July 18th, Maine
-Aug. 1st, Hartford, CT
-Sept. 5th, Buffalo, NY
-Halloween, NYC
Ugh!! But we're thinking of turning the Buffalo wedding in to a mini-pre-anniversary trip and do Niagara Falls and stay in a chintzy hotel with a martini glass shaped tub and a round bed!!
I want to start planning that this weekend.

Isn't it amazing how the travel industry keeps claiming poverty, but yet they still don't get that if they keep their prices high, we can't afford to pay it??I've always found that amazing.?
Well I hope you're able to shop around for airfares and hotel rooms. And then I hope it's a beautiful wedding and that you guys have a great time. ?
Perhaps your friend knows of another couple who are also looking to room at the hotel? Our friends had a wedding in VT last year and the best rate was for a suite. There were several people that asked about doubling up so that they could get the better rate.
I wish I could console you about the costs otherwise, but we have had the same experience. Sometimes it's hard to find deals when you have a specific schedule and needs to get to the wedding. One of my friends, I think I spent almost $1500 when all was said and done to attend her wedding. It's definitely a lot of money.
