All unemployed Illinois Girls....
I am really starting to get worried that I am going to loose my job some time after July 1st because of our wonderful State budget
crisis. I am a social worker and all of the programs that I serve are
on the chopping block if they cannot agree on a budget.
Being the compulsive worrier that I am and thinking that I am going to
get laid off, can anyone explain to me how I can figure out how much I
will receive for an unemployment check. I worry way to much about money and the idea of possibly loosing my job is making my stomach turn. I have been to the Illinois
unemployment website and I am having a hard time figuring it out. It's
all very confusing to me. Any suggestion or tips on how to figure it
out will be helpful. Thanks girls!!
Re: All unemployed Illinois Girls....
Hi! I was laid off May 15th. ?The process seems confusing but once you're signed up, it's pretty easy. ?What you'll need to do is go on the Illinois Dept. of Unemployment Security website and there's an elecronic form to sign up. ?I highly suggest doing direct deposit because otherwise they send you a debit card that they load with money - how are you supposed to pay rent/mortgage from a debit card?! ?They will send you a confirmation form in the mail which has the phone number you will call once every 2 weeks (they tell you what day) to certify that you're actively looking for a job, aren't receiving social security or disability benefits, etc. and then in 1-2 days they'll either direct deposit or load your debit card.
There's a chart on the website to help you figure out how much you will make.
Hope that helps!?

The website is http://www.ides.state.il.us/pdf/benefits/wba.pdf to see the breakout but I think everyone gets the same regardless of whatever you made before.
Single = $385/week
w/Spouse (I think this is if your spouse isn't working) = $459/week
w/Child = $531
Love how those IT guys feel the need to block everything!
The IL unemployment rate was 9.4% in April, that's high! I think like the first $2400 is fed tax exempt, so that'll help you a little also.
