DH is currently in Oregon as we speak...

...he took a week long road trip in the RV with his dad and they just arrived in the Portland area tonight. Tomorrow they're taking the metro? trollley? (that's what we call it in san diego) Train? What do locals call it? to downtown in the AM to see how traffic is and poke around Portland. He says its just gorgeous and that he can't wait to take me up there! (I couldn't make the trip and have only spent most of my time in Southern OR). Yay!

  • You're probably thinking of MAX, which is our metro rail system. There's also the Portland Streetcar but I don't know that many commute on that unless they're trying to get home from downtown to the Pearl District/NW. It's been kind of muggy but in the low 70s so fairly decent weather.

I would suggest that you guys come visit during the winter months as well before you move too. It's very easy to fall in love with Portland when the weather is beautiful (it's why most of us stick it out through the grey) but I think it's almost more important to see what you'll be living in for 9 or so months out of the year. I've had several Californian friends that lived here and had to move because the grey was just too much.

Thanks! I think he's referring to the MAX then, I didn't want to call it the wrong thing.

We're hopefully going to go together around my birthday in the late fall, so hopefully we'll see the gloomy stuff. You're totally right about the weather, and I know alot of people can get easily affected by the waether, espeically us Californians who are used to 360 days of sun!

I lived in Germany for year, and heard the weather is similar, and DH lived in Germany for 2 years, Seattle for 2 years and Utah for a year, so he knows what to expect...lots of gray, lots of rain, and a little snow in the winter (or alot if its anything like this past year). Actually, DH kinda hates the heat...

  • Good, just wanted to make sure you were fully prepared for what you'll be in for (the good and the bad). :)
