So, I need to vent about my job.
I work for an accounting firm as the administrative assistant. We are busy from Jan to April and then the rest of the year I am BORED, BORED, BORED all day. The worst part about it is that my bosses realize how bored I am but there still is no work to be done. However, this is not my vent. My vent is about the fact that I NEVER get a lunch break. If I sit in the break room to eat, I still have to answer the phone. I can't leave because no one is willing to answer the phone for me so I get in trouble for leaving the phone unmanned and the front unattended. The guy that is suppose to cover the phones for me when I am not here, is never here or wants me to go to lunch at 11:00 am (just three hours after I get here) or 1:30 pm (once I have starved to death and have to go ahead and eat). This is just so irratating and trust me, I don't get paid to be here all 9 hours.
When your day is as boring as mine, an hour away from the desk really makes the time go by a little faster. UGH, I hate this job.
Any advice or similar stories?

Where I work the office manager (front desk person) does not usually take lunch breaks either. I feel bad for her and ask if she wants me to pick her up something sometimes.
I know this is silly, but I do it sometimes... just go into the bathroom and spend 15 minutes... they won't bug you if you're in there! (I hope not anyway.) Sometimes I go to the bathroom and just sit on the floor and shut my eyes for a while.
Yeah, I get asked that as well. One of the girls I work with is really good about asking and so is one my bosses.
As for the bathroom, I have done this but we have a problem with one of the ladies working here thinking it is "her" bathroom since her office is right across the hall.
Don't even get me started on her
I'm an admin assistant and I just consider it a part of the job :-) Sometimes the secretary is kind enough () to watch the phones so I can sit in the back and eat but nine times out of ten I just grab lunch when I can.
Not trying to be ugly, but just be thankful you have a job! I post on a national board and we had two people get laid off in one day this morning, and there are several women who are already laid off and even more women whose husbands are laid off.
As as this sounds, when I get frustrated with my job I start counting my blessings and then I find that I can tolerate some of those little irritations if it means I still have a steady income, insurance, etc :-)
Never said I wasn't thankful for my job! (just to make that clear)
I was venting. I am very glad I have a job, I thank God everyday. I'm just not thankful that I don't get a lunch like I am suppose to. It's in the manual that EVERYONE gets a lunch. And since I am the receptionist, currier, secretary and maid here, a lunch every now and then would be great.
