Speaking of weather...a post of the day

Where are you original from/born/grew up?

If you moved to OR from out of state, what made you move?

If you are from OR and had to move to any other state, where would you move?

Your honest thoughts on the OR/Pacific NW weather?

  • Where are you original from/born/grew up?  Originally from La Grande (small town in NE Oregon, if you're unfamiliar), but I've also lived in California and the Midwest.

If you moved to OR from out of state, what made you move?  I kept leaving and kept coming back.  I can find something to enjoy about any place I've lived, but Oregon is home.

If you are from OR and had to move to any other state, where would you move?  Washington, lol.  We're really attached to the PNW, although I've told DH that I'd be willing to move just about anywhere but the deep south.

Your honest thoughts on the OR/Pacific NW weather?  I prefer four seasons to the 1.5 seasons we have in Portland (and not all of the PNW weather is like it is here--people in Portland and Seattle tend to forget that there's a lot of PNW outside those two cities and it's vastly different than those two cities), but I honestly don't mind the wet/grey.  I'm happy for the break when it comes, but the winter certainly doesn't make me miserable.

In case you're wondering where everyone went: http://pandce.proboards.com/index.cgi
  • Native.

    N/A

London. I realize it's not a state but that would be my top pick. Perhaps Boston. DH loves Boston (he's a native but went to school in Boston).

I like it but the 300+ days of grey don't bother me. I'm waterproof and no, I generally don't use an umbrella (an easy way to pick the natives from the transplants).

  • Native.

I love San Francisco, northen CA wine country, southern Spain and central Mexico but I'm truly a PNWer at heart.

I actually love it when it first comes. I enjoy the yummy comfort foods and glasses of wine. It's about six months in where I start to get a bit antsy. However, I've found that a nice sunny break (we went to San Diego this year) about 1/2 way through breaks up the monotony of grey skies and rain.

  • I'm an Oregonian by birth!!  Woot!

I lived in Florida for 6 months when I was 21 and loved it.  If I *had* to move somewhere else, and was given a cost of living increase? ... Clearwater, FL.  Or Hawaii!  I love Georgia also, it's very pretty there.  DH would want to live in San Diego...I would be okay with it, but it's not my #1 pick.  I don't think you could pay me to live in LA, lol.

I love our weather.  I like the rain, cause I think Oregon is soooo pretty, and without the rain, we wouldn't have all the pretty trees and flowers and lakes.  I love our summers, they are my favorite time of year.  But the winters are nice too, even though I wasn't a fan of the two feet of snow this year, usually it's only a few inches, and I like it then.

ETA: Oh, and i always use an umbrella!  I have to wear glasses 24/7 and i hate having to wipe raindrops off of them.  It's easier for me to just carry an umbrella all the time.  So I buy the teeny tiny ones that fit in a medium sized purse, they're great!  I wonder if people think i'm a transplant??

  • Where are you original from/born/grew up? Cleveland, OH

If you moved to OR from out of state, what made you move? I had done some work here and fell in love with the mountain and the Gorge.

If you are from OR and had to move to any other state, where would you move?  If I had to move again? I'd pick Colorado but I'm hoping DH can find a job soon after 5 months of unemployment so we can stay here.

Your honest thoughts on the OR/Pacific NW weather?  Where I'm from it sometimes snows from October until May with temperatures below zero sometimes.  I'll take 8 months of rain with mild temps to 8 months of snow followed by 4 months of HOT HUMID 90+ days anytime.

If you are from OR and had to move to any other state, where would you move?  I wouldn't.  Maybe Ireland

Your honest thoughts on the OR/Pacific NW weather?  The fact that I don't have to squint in the sun a lot should keep me wrinkle free longer.  I love an overcast day.  When I lived in NYC my boss thought I was crazy when I would say a day was beautiful when it was overcast.
