Need your (Louisville) advice ladies!

Hi~!

I'm a California Nestie traveling to Louisville soon. I'll be there for a convention, so my days are completely filled (it looks like I won't be able to do much touristy stuff. Booo!). But since meals are on my own, I wanted to know about any restaurants in Downtown that are a MUST. Things to consider: no car (don't mind short taxi rides), and traveling alone (Booo again).

I'm already planning to have a Hot Brown (is J. Graham's Cafe at the Brown Hotel the best/only place??) and Derby Pie (where??). Oh, and I hear a new White Castle opened up in Downtown, so I finally get to try them (WHOOT~!). What else???????

 TIA~!

Re: Need your (Louisville) advice ladies!

  • Well, i'm in Houston but i go to louisville 1-2x/month and stay downtown in the galt house.

There isn't a TON of great food downtown unfortunately.  There is a good new sushi place called 'Raw'.  As for 4th street live, most things are pretty mediocre, though there is a whisky bar where they make a wonderful cosmo:-)  And I think there's a place called the Red Star which is pretty good.

    On 6th and....Market?  Main?....there's  a restaurant called The Bristol - not bad.

If the weather is nice you can walk / jog across the 2nd street bridge and there is a good restaurant right on the river...ugh now i cannot remember the name...but it is right next to hooters:-)

If you venture into 'Old Louisville' I like Amici and 3rd avenue cafe.

R U staying at the Galt?  They have a wonderful gym so be sure to pack your workout gear!  Oh and be sure to get a room in the East tower, since the west tower is kinda old and resembles an old saloon / brothel:-)

  • I think PittTexan is thinking of Rocky's.  It's in Southern, IN just across the bridge and is a great place to eat outside with a good view of the river and downtown Louisville.  Buckheads is right next door although I'm not a fan.  There are several restaurants at 4th Street Live (Red Tavern, Hard Rock Cafe, Maker's Mark, etc.)  Oh!  There is a fabulous casual restaurant on Main Street called Luigi's.  It's a great little pizza place and they sell lots of interesting and tasty pizzas.  The owner (Luigi) is from Italy and is a character!  Another interesting place on 4th street is Cafe Kilimanjaro.  It's a little hole in the wall restaurant but the food is fantastic.

  • Toast on Main has great b-fast.  Artemesia on Market is wonderful - not sure you'd feel comfortable by yourself though - it's a romantic place.  Spaghetti Factory has decent italian.  Bearno's by the Bridge has great pizza.  don't forget to ask the conceirge of your hotel for recommendations too.  have fun!
  • I am pretty sure Cafe Kilimanjaro is closed now.
  • Thanks so much for all the ideas ladies! I can't wait to check them out~!
