Thinking about moving to Nashville
DH and I are seriously considering moving to Nashville. We live in LA and want to get out so bad! Dh is an IT Consultant and can work remotely so we can live anywhere in the US. I've heard such wonderful things about TN. ?We are conservative Christians and love the idea of living in the Bible belt. We also want to get away from the busy life of LA (traffic and crime is horrible) and want a more affordable place to live and raise our (future) kids. I love the idea of having four seasons (even if they are mild). I'm an esthetician, but can't find work here so I doubt I'll find work there, but that's ok. If it's not too much to ask, I'd love to know anything (good or bad) about Nashville.?Hendersonville seems like a nice place.?We are planning on visiting in September. Thanks soo much!
Re: Thinking about moving to Nashville
We moved from LA about 4 years ago and we never looked back! We love Nashville.
We live right in metro Nashville (Hillsboro Village) and love our area. We're close to so many great restaurants, shopping, and downtown. But, I agree that the Williamson County (Brentwood and Franklin, specifically) is great place to raise a family. I will say that some of the home prices weren't as low as we thought when we first moved here, but you will get a lot more for your money here than you would in LA. And the traffic is only bad during rush hour here. Imagine that!!
We have a close friend who lives in Hendersonville and we really like it up there. We think about moving up there quite often -- however, we'd only want to live there if we could get a house right on the lake.
If you're looking a little less expensive than the Brentwood/Cool Springs/Franklin area I would highly suggest you look at Mt. Juliet. We just moved here about 9 months ago from NJ. It was a big adjustment from NJ (restaurants are all chains, driving a little farther to get to stores) but Downtown Nashville is only 20-30 minutes away so it's really easy to go in. Wilson County schools are second to the Williamson County schools (Brentwood etc) but they are much better than the Davidson County schools which cover Nashville. I don't know anything about Hendersonville - sorry.
Good luck!
We live in Antioch, but I wouldn't suggest moving there, as you would be in Metro Nashville Schools, unless you are planning to use private schools. Our particular neighborhood is very nice, but anywhere in the Metro area you can run into problems.
My BFF lives in Hendersonville, and I would love to live there. Sumner County schools are pretty good, plus house prices aren't quite as expensive as the Brentwood/Franklin/Cool Springs area. Mt. Juliet is also nice. It really depends on where jobs would be located. For us, my DH works in Smyrna, but I work in Ashland City (opposite sides of Nashville). We went with Antioch, because at the time we were both working in Brentwood, and we could not afford to live there. I think it is important to look at how far of a commute, etc. you would consider, when deciding where you want to live.
We, too, are recent transplants, from OH. We are in the White House/Hendersonville area, and love it. (It helps us, too, being further north up 65; it cuts an hour plus off our drive home to Ohio!). We are in Robertson county, so also good school systems. (You'd want to avoid Davidson county at all costs for school).
Feel free to email me at mrsMSG@hotmail.com if you have more specific questions.

Avoid Davidson County at all costs?!? ?Umm... that's a bit harsh I'd say. ?Granted I don't have children yet, but I have friends that do, and there's a lot of good schools in the county.?
We live in Mufreesboro which is a little North of Nashville and absolutely LOVE it! It is the 12th fastest growing county in the US. Schools are great, housing prices arent bad and it is only about a 20 minute drive into Nashville. My parents live in Hendersonville and it is also such a nice area! I agree with PP...I would avoid Davidson county schools at all cost...yes there are some decent ones in the district but there is no way I would send my children to them. I hope you enjoy your trip in September! I live in Nashville, off White Bridge Road, and there are some pros to living in town- great little eateries, fun places to shop, etc., especially in East Nashville and Hillsboro Village. There's an influx of condos right now, too- it may be possible to find some good deals. I've heard about the schools, but DH and I have decided that we're not too worried about it until middle school.
I have a coworker that just loves Smyrna (between Nashville and Murfreesboro, but quiet). He says there's really no bad part of town there.
