Looking for a Place in Richmond to Host a Retirement Party

Hi -- I'm new here. I am planning a retirement party for a friend who is retiring after 36 years of teaching. I am trying to find a nice place in Richmond that is not too expensive, but would be a lovely setting for an afternoon tea type of gathering. Probably about 30-35 people. A friend of mine suggested check out this site as a good source of information. We do not currently live in Richmond so we don't know the area all that well. Maybe something like a boutique hotel or a nice restaurant with a private room option?

Any tips greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Looking for a Place in Richmond to Host a Retirement Party

  • Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens maybe...not sure how expensive it is, but they have a tea room and the gardens would be a nice setting for a tea type party.  Not sure what facitilies Maymont Park offers, but it is also a beautiful area.

The Jefferson Hotel downtown is a popular venue for events, but it is pricey and probably hard to book.  The Tobacco Company restaurant is also really nice, but could be expensive too.

The Crossings Resort or some of the other golf resorts might be worth checking out.  The boat house restaurant in chesterfield that is on the water...I attended a wedding reception there and it was nice.

  • We held one at The Grape Vine 2....good food nice family owned place and I think they can seat up to 60 people in a private room.
  • thank you - I will check those out!
  • Check out the cute Garden Cafe in Powhatan, Gallery 5 in Richmond (city), and The Virginia Cliffe Inn in Glen Allen. All are really reasonably priced and have wonderful atmosphere.
