UR favorite mom and pop restaurant in Orlando

We will be visiting soon. We are staying next to Downtown Disney and want to eat where the locals eat.

We don't have a style of food preference so anything that is 1 year old friendly is good for us.

We don't mind driving a little ways out.

Re: UR favorite mom and pop restaurant in Orlando

  • My favorite mom and pop restaurant (Yellow Dog Eats) is no longer open, but my favorite dessert location is The Dessert Lady. She has a store near Universal Studios on Kirkman, and another in downtown Orlando (not Downtown Disney.)
    Hawaii
  • I second the dessert lady!

I love to eat at pom pom's tea house near downtown Orlando.

Tijuana Flatts is great, and is a Florida exclusive.

I don't know if you have Pei Wei by you, but it's the quick service version of  PF Changs Bistro, but half the price and taste just as good if not better.

    Good luck & enjoy!

  • I think that Yellow Dog has opened back up (or at least it is going to be soon). My mom use to work next door to them.
  • One of my favorite breakfast places is Brian's.  It's a hole in the wall, but their peanutbutter chip pancakes are fantastic.  And supposedly they have the best sweet buns in town.  It's on Orange Ave in downtown Orlando, not far off I-4.
  • mama nem's is great if you like soulfood! it's on kirkman, close to universal studios.

  • I 2nd Pom Poms. They have an amazing Thanksgiving sandwich.

I enjoy Giordanos deep dish pizza it is on 535 near Downtown Disney. I believe it is a chain though.

I also love Kim Wus for chinese on Kirkman. It is in the same shopping plaza as the Dessert Lady.

Disney has some amazing restaurants though if you want to eat on property.

I second Kim Wu's! They have a pretty good buffet and normally have coupons in tourist magazines! :)

  • Tiajuana Flats is not a FLA exclusive. They have them in Georgia now - not far from where my H's parents live!

All of the above are yum, yum!
