Help! Plumbing Referral-hot water slab leak

Hi Gals ? We have a slow leak that?s coming from the baseboard in the garage and on the other side of that wall that?s leaking is the restroom and the laundry room.  The tile near that wall in the restroom and laundry room is hot but there are no leaks in those rooms.  The house is only about 6 years old and we had someone out and they assumed it was a hot water slab leak and that?s basically almost as worst as it can get.  It would require them to at least jackhammer the cement and tiles and cut through baseboards.  Nevertheless, it?s a messy and costly expense.  I don?t know any plumbing company and this company was just referred to me by AHS.  The company the contracted out was late and seemed unreliable; therefore, I need a second opinion.  Has anyone experienced this before?  If so, was it a correct diagnose of a hot water slab leak?  If not, anyone have a reliable plumbing company that they could refer to me?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  My worst nightmare is to have a wrong diagnose and them jackhammer and ruin everything and prolonging the process.  Thanks so much!!

  • Sorry, that does not sound fun!  I don't have any specific referrals, but you can go to servicemagic.com and get some estimates and read reviews on plumbers.  We had a good experience with the contractors we found through Service Magic when we were having work done on our house.  I think it's a great resource and definitely better than blindly picking someone from the phonebook.  GL!

  • Check out NuFlow with delong services. ?We had the same issue and I did NOT want someone jackhammering through our new wood floors! I spent hours researching and it was the perfect solution for us. ?They were able to shoot an epoxy solution that forms a thin lining in your pipes stopping the leak and preventing future leaks. ?It was a little tricky getting insurance to pay for it, but saved us days and weeks of having our house ripped apart!

  • DH and I are in the middle of this.  We had foundation repair work on one side of the house in early May.  Afterwards, the free sewer test failed.  We researched plumbers and finally chose a small company.  Their price for the day they spent using cameras to find out leaks was reasonable.  We had three confirmed leaks, two they could locate with cameras.  When they left, we scheduled for them to come back to fix leak number 1 and they told DH 1300 a day.  For leak 1, they jack hammered through the stand up shower floor.  They came back for a second day for leak number 2, which they dug through the outside and jack hammered under the sink (so not through any tile or floors).  They had to come back another morning to finish fixing leak number 2.  At that point, before moving on to leak 3, we wanted to settle our bill to ensure it was what we expected.  Well, it wasn't.  They charged us way more and while we negotiated it a bit lower, it was still way more than we expected...and we only have ourselves to blame for not getting them to sign an estimate (or even a daily or hourly rate).

Now we're screwed because we still have one more leak, it's hard to find, it might require jack hammering or removing the tub, and the plumbers we were using told us that the "third day" was cheaper, so they would be the best deal, but we have a strained relationship.  It's very annoying.

Unfortunately, I don't have a recommendation for you.  Actually, as long as you agree on the price up front, I would recommend the company we used.  But hopefully you'll find a reference.  I was shocked no one at work had any plumber recommendations.

    Good luck,
