? for Hillsboro Nesties

My cousin is moving next month to OR for a job relocation.  His company is putting him up in corporate housing for a month.  I live in the SE so I am not very familiar with Hillboro so I was wondering if any of you could tell me if the Orenco Station area is nice? If you know much about it please give me some pro's and cons.  He is huge into public transportation escpecially since he will be working for Standard, downtown.  He's single and in his 40's so doesn't really need an excellent night life but would like things near by for eating and such.

Thank you for any help you can offer since I am totally no help to him when it comes to this.

Re: ? for Hillsboro Nesties

  • Orenco Station is a nice area.  There's a mall, grocery stores, everything you could ever want is withing about 10 minutes drive.  It's mostly brand new, about 10 years old, if that.  It used to be all farmland and nothing there except Intel plants... It's right on the MAX (our public train system) which will take him to the airport, downtown Portland, sporting events, concerts, etc.  Taking the MAX should take him about 40 minutes to get to work, but if he drove it would be at least an hour, that is the worst commute in the Portland area.  Highway 26 is pretty horrible getting out of town.

If I was a single person moving here and being put up to live there for a while, I'd be happy.

  • I agree with Jen, Orenco Station is a great area. There is also the Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club very near by which would be a great place to kill some free time and meet new people and the Bistro there has some suprisingly delicious food. I used to work there and still pop in on occasion for one of their panini's or the veggie sandwich. Also Orenco is close to the Tanasbourne area which is very handy (lots of stores and restaurants and a movie theatre) and easy access to the hwy.
