What to do in Lake Geneva or Dells?

Hi Ladies,

DH has a business trip to Madison soon, and I'm coming, too.  We'd like to do something a little fun (& romantic, maybe?) on the way back home (to Omaha).  Would you go to Lake Geneva or The Dells?  I went to Lake Geneva for a long weekend as a kid and don't really remember it at all.  DH is very into nature & lakes, so I thought that may be nice for him.  It looks like The Dells are really for families &kids.  Any suggestions?  It will be Memorial Day weekend, so we may already be too late.  I know Door County is beautiful, but the ride home would be over 10 hours long, and that's just too long!

Re: What to do in Lake Geneva or Dells?

  • I would prob do Lake Geneva it's more romantic and they have a lot of cute little resturants and shops if your in to looking in them.
  • I don't know much about the Dells but I can help you with Lake Geneva:

    • Hotel -- Lots of cute B&B places or spa/resort places.  Interlaken had been completely remodeled.  The Cove will have a lot of kids running around.  Bella Vista is a nice (downtown) hotel for couples. Can't go wrong with Grand Geneva (they have everything, you wouldn't have to leave)
    • Food -- For breakfast:  Egg Harbor (call ahead for seating), Romantic Dinner: Medusa's (expensive but worth it), Casual Dinner: The Next Door Pub (great pizza), or Cactus Club
    • Fun --  Call Gage Marine about boat tours or rentals, hike around the lake trail, Lake Geneva Lanes, shopping downtown, golf courses galore (check out Hawk's View), and there's always the Sugar Shack!
    • Bars -- Champs is great when the patio is open otherwise can get crowded, Hogs is great for dancing, Carvetti's you never know what you'll get (people) but their outdoor patio is really nice and they have beanbags, Don't go to Fat Cat's or Thumbs, The Pub is our personal favorite, it's a more relaxed atmosphere but it's not downtown

Tenth Anniversary 1000 Comments 5 Love Its Combo Breaker

I was just in Lake Geneva not quite two weeks ago for a conference at the Grand Geneva. I have my own opinions about that place, just don't get one of their smaller rooms.

Keep in mind, not a lot of things are open yet for the season. A lot was closed April 27-30, and I'm sure not a lot has changed.

We really liked Champs; we could run a tab at least. Fat Cat's sucked, they're a cash only bar with very limited space. Lots of townies.
