Furniture stores that sell cribs?

I found one crib at target that I like but I worry about its quality. It says its from Bassett, which I believe has good stuff, but i'm not sure.

Anyone know any furniture stores or kids stores that sell cribs?

  • Just babies r us and JCPenney's has cribs also.
  • Baby's Dream in White Marsh Mall
    C ~ Spring 2006 Baby! Photobucket
  • Babies R Us, also there is a Babies First store in Columbia that sells furniture too - I haven't gone yet, but I think Photo Nut recommended it at one point.

  • I've bought two cribs and dressers from Great Beginnings in Gaithersburg. It's worth the drive because they have a huge selection of good quality cribs. My son's crib is coming after 4 weeks when I was told 10-14 so it's fast service too. They also have a ton of other useful stuff like Born Free Bottles, diapers bags, etc...

I've heard Buy Buy Baby is also pretty good which is also in the area.

Would you mind sharing how expensive they are??? I have less then 2k to spend on a crib, dresser, & changing table.

  • We got our set at Lauman's furniture in Perry Hall (brand Young America by Stanley).  We were in that price range a little over with the convertible crib ($600 with the convertible pieces), dresser, amoire, and night stand.  Young America brand has great reviews in the Baby Bargain book.  You can go to their website to see where they are sold around here.  Good Luck!
  • We just started looking too I went to Frederick to furniture 4 kids to look at the babys dream line and it is very nice , sturdy and appers to last .My good frind did her whole room , crib , dresser , rocker for about 1200 there .  I have the brochures and prices if you wanna see them . The cribs were 500 ( convertible ) and  dressers ranged from 450-750 .. She also said once you buy over $500 they take off a percentage .

Also another pg  friend really recommended great beginings as someone else mentioned she spent a bout $500 on a crib there .  Good luck I know how tough it is .

  • Comfort 1st is expensive, and I only bought a crib because I had a nice furniture set that was passed down to me.

You could also find a crib at a place like Special Beginnings and BuyBuy baby then look for it online. I ended up getting a crib for $300 with free shipping, I didn't get a convertible crib and I didn't want to spend a small fortune since she was only going to be in it for 2 years - even if I used it again, that would be 4 years for a piece of furniture.

  • We actually got DD's crib at Target.   It was the same exact crib that my friend purchased at Babies R us, and ours actually lasted LONGER than hers!

    Target furniture isn't cheaply made.

  • I think Sears has the baby Bassett line.  I have a friend who got all of her nursery furniture at Sears and it's very cute and well made.

Eloise has a basset dresser- we got it off of craigslist!  Her crib (which is still unassembled as the hardware is on order!) changing table and glider are all loaner/handmedowns from out old neighbors.  They are done having kids and just let us have the stuff- but they may want it back for their eventual grandkids (their kids are 5 & 7- so it's not old, and they don't need it back anytime soon!)

People are always selling the fancy-pants pottery barn stuff on craigslist- it's worth looking there- also check the DC site if you are willing to drive to Mont. Co. etc.

We got a toddler bed for Eloise (I know, I know she doesn't have a crib up yet, why are we getting her a toddler bed already?) for $35 off of CL.  Normally I think of toddler beds as being a waste- but for $35 it will allow us to keep her in that bedroom for a little longer before we put her in a bigger room w/ a double bed & full set of "real" furniture.

    Sorry for the novel.

  • My son's crib is the Munire Majestic line and we bought the crib and dresser for less than 2K. My daughter's was the Munire Newport line and it was more but still under 2K. I live in Towson and they will deliver and set-up for 80.

I bought a changing table online for my daughter's room and it was 100. I won't be getting a changing table for my son but instead will get changing topper.

We bought my daughter's crib and dresser without seeing them in person and have been happy with the quality. I do recommend going down there if you have no idea what you want. I went off Baby Bargains which is why I didn't feel the need to drive down there to purchase my daughter's crib. I did drive down for my son's crib because there was an event and purchased my son's set in person and saved 20%. Call ahead and ask if there any upcoming events.

I hope this helps and good luck.

  • WOW! Thanks everyone!! Great information!!

We went to Babies-r-us this morning just to browse and DH was NOT impressed at all. Actually he said "all this stuff is crap." Oy!! He is going to be the hard one to please!

I think i'm going to invest in that baby bargains book. Anyone care to sell there's or share a copy???

  • Jerzey-

I never bought it- I gleaned enough from the various boards to figure out what was what- we bought the mattress recc'd by the book- a Colgate Classica and I got it at Great Beginnings in G-burg.  They have a good website though and have good shipping deals.  I think I could have gotten the mattress a little cheaper if I had ordered it online- but I did buy a few things in the store that I couldn't find else where like the cupholder for my stroller and a cute boppy slipcover and some other random stuff.

One thing I will strongly recc'd is that you don't get a diaper genie- personally I find them foul (yrs of baby-sitting experience- they create poopy-diaper sausages.)

There is a diaper pail for 9.99 @ BRU it's safety 1st brand- has a foot pedal (which is key for keeping one hand on baby while you toss the dirty diaper.)  Also it has a wide opening, which is good because you can just drop the dipe and don't have to be super accurate and it doesn't require special bags.

We didn't invest in it until we moved- before moving we just had the ghetto system of tossing the dipes into old plastic grocery bags which we had hanging on door knobs upstairs and downstairs.  If I had to do over I would have bought 2 of these pails from the get-go.

That's a link to the Baby Bargains website.  They have message boards, so you can basically get the information you need from there.  They have tons of reviews, and if you can't find what you need, you can ask!

Funny you should mention the diaper genie. DH's friend told him not to get it b/c it sucked. And I was curious as to what we could use in it's place. They live in a condo complex with a garbage shoot so they just walk there door and toss the dirty diapers. This is helpful!

Gosh I dont even know where to begin.

  • I highly recommend the Diaper Champ if you're planning on using disposable diapers. The Champ uses your own bags and keeps the smell down. I've heard good things about the Diaper Dekor but definitely stay away from the Genie

I also would check out ebay when it comes to purchasing bedding, clothes, diaper bags, etc.. I have gotten some great deals on brand new items for both kids. Ebay is also a great resource for maternity clothes because who wants to spend a fortune on maternity clothes.

The back of Baby Bargains has a great section that give you a low down on everything they discussed in the book. I used it as a checklist of what we needed and what wasn't necessary.

Good luck. It's overwhelming. Start early and ask questions.

  • hey jerzey I am nearby in AA cty and I can lend you my baby bargains book to look at . I also have an  the older edition my friend lent me . I also have a bunch of frinds who recently had babies and like the diaper champ since it takes regular trash bags instead of a  refill  like the genie . hey maybe we can arrange a pregnant nestie GTG and  go out to the stores/ rockville and check stuf out ! feel free to email me or page me .
