Which Fabric for Chairs? Long.

So I decided to buy some cheap CL chairs for the LR.  They are nowhere near as cool as the Pier 1 chair that G&D made me love, or even the leather ones I was looking at, but I realized that we just didn't have the $ for those.  So I found some with similar lines that will need to be fixed.  Warning, they are currently ugly.  Both the wood on the chairs and the coffee table (corner visible) are getting stained a new color.  Probably a little darker brown.

As a reference, kitchen and LR are open to each other.  Pear green behind cabinets, slate blue/grey on connecting wall behind table, and red on one wall in LR.  PIB

I'm trying to decide whether I should go with a light neutral like the couch and play with pillows, or if I should go with a bold pattern.  Here is the couch (which will face these chairs) right now.  The blue and brown pillows are being recovered.  Fabric TBD.

So I could go with this plain, nubby silk fabric (beige color) and just do patterned pillows (which could be in any of the patterned fabrics below).

Or I could go with a fun print on the chairs, with some patterned pillows on the couch and solid pillows on the chairs.

Option 1 - espresso brown and natural

Option 2 - lipstick red and natural

Option 3 - black and cream

Option 4 - Slate grey and green (couch pillows in fabric below)

Option 5 - slate gray and green (couch pillows in fabric above)

Whew - Long.  I like to explain too much.

All that to say, plain chairs or patterned chairs?

If patterned, do you have a preference?

Re: Which Fabric for Chairs? Long.

  • my vote is option five. I think the lines of the chairs will look great with the stripes on the fabric. I also love the floral fabric that you'd use for couch pillows. You could go one step further and make a few pillows for the couch out of the striped fabric, as well. GL! I'm fabric obsessed, lol. I also liked option one, although not for that room, but was not a fan of option three at all. Just nms.
  • Without question you should use a print!  I would go with 4 or 5.  While I heat options 1 and 2, I think they are not the right pattern for the room/colors you are using.  Everything looks great, Angel!

  • Definitely a pattern would look cute.? I like the red pattern and the last option with the stripes.

  • I like using patterned chairs, but then I would stick with solid pillows. ?I don't have the fabrics in front of me anymore, but could you use those last two patterns, one for covering the chairs and one for pillows on teh couch?
  • I'm leaning toward the last two fabrics - so I ordered some swatches.  I'd do one on the chairs (with solid pillows) and the other pattern on the couch.

I like the red too, but I'm afraid it won't work.  so sad!

  • love Option 5 - slate gray and green (couch pillows in fabric above)!

Can you tell me where you found that fabric?  I love it!   They would both go so well with my couch!

tons of retro fabrics there!  It isn't super cheap, but I only need a few yards, and it's quite awesome!  They also have an ebay store.
