What are you and Andrea considering going back to school to study?

My work will reimburse me for education so I'm very tempted to get my certificate in non-profit managment. It's through the Ph.D program that K is in.  It's only 6 courses, so less than a masters but still better than only my BS. I'm just not 100% convinced I want to do it.  School isn't fun for me (unlike K). And the classes I would need to take are some of the same ones that K took.  I'm worried about teachers comparing us or me just not making it.

  • Butting in - I have a Certificate in Nonprofit Management (I did it along with my Masters.) I found the classes to be interesting for the most part - although accounting nearly did me in. Crying

     Good luck deciding! Smile

  • we're also looking into it b/c our employers will reimburse for costs - its tough to pass up free education, especially in this economy!

I'm considering getting my mba...there is a university in ct that has a program almost entirely online which would make it much more do-able with everything else going on.  The thing is, i hated grad school when i went for my other master's and barely dragged myself through the program (i'm sure some of you remember my b!tching and complaining) so thats really tainting my feelings about going back to school.

Andrea is looking at a 2 year program to become an occupational therapy assistant.  this would allow her to stay where she currently works but move up in pay (and if she ever needed to find a new job, it would give her lots of options).

  • I'm biased, because I love my program, but check to see if your employer covers the taxes on the tuition. My tuition is $$$ so its 1700/course in taxes. sigh.

The way my company reimburses is based on per-unit cost. They will reimburse up to 6 units a semester. So while there will be some oop expense it won't be as bad as paying the full tuition.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but i dont quite understand....do you mean that the reimbursement is seen as income in your paycheck therefore you're taxed on it?
