Things to do with kids in Topeka

My DH works in Topeka and the kids & I will be visiting him for 2 weeks. Is anyone here familiar enough with the Topeka area to give recommendations for what to do with a 3 yo & 1 yo in Topeka?

TIA!

Re: Things to do with kids in Topeka

  • Oooh, this is hard. The zoo, of course, is fabulous. It is just the right size for a 3yo and 1yo. It also has a fabulous park, carousel, train, rose gardens, etc. But that would only take up one day.

There is a put put golf place in north Topeka that is cheap. Also, the north Topeka aquatic center is EXCELLENT. It's like a mini-water park, complete with 6 slides, wave pool and lazy river. Lots of areas appropriate for your kids, and for DH Big Smile

When are you coming? The Shawnee County Fair is July 18-26, that would be fun. And the Jackson County Fair (15 minutes north of Topeka) is July 20-24.

    HTH!

  • The gage park pool or the shawnee north pool would be good.

  •  Gage park has a pool also with slides/etc for kids but the north pool is a good idea too

Reading times at the Topeka Public Library

Paddleboats at Lake Shawnee $3 for a half an hour

    $2 movies at Westridge 8

I'll try and think of more!

Ditto. The North Aquatic Pool is better than the pool in Gage park because it's cheaper and I hear it's less crowded. The one in Gage Park would be good if you're going to the Zoo and making a day of it. Gage has a lot of little play areas too, some of them are super nice with lots of shade

There's a mini golf place at like 6th and Wanamaker (er, off Wanamaker, down past where the BK is) and another attached to the bowling alley on Westport, a block east of Wanamaker.?

There's also a fun play area at the Kansas Museum of History, which is free.?

  • The golf place emo is talking about off of Wanamaker is actually off of 10th street, not 6th. You would head west on 10th to the golf place. They have putt putt, gooney golf, batting cages, go karts, and an arcade. At 6th and Wanamaker is the new movie theater. If you continue west on 6th from the movie theater there is a nice history museum as well.
  • Thanks everyone! We were there in March for a week and we went to the zoo and storytime at the library. We'll be doing those things again.

Thanks for the tip on the North pool. I had been planning on going to the one at Gage park, but if the North pool is cheaper and just as nice, we'll go there. I am super bummed though that the pools don't open until 1.

Does anyone know of a splash pad or water fountains to play in? Around here (Columbus, OH), there are a bunch of places like that.
