I've been able to keep things under control so far by plucking the occasional gray hair, but sadly, they've been multiplying at a high rate of speed lately. I've never colored my hair before, but have been contemplating my options because I don't want to pluck myself bald. Mine seems to be primarily at my temples, so I was wondering if I should try one of those root touch-ups I've seen on tv instead of an all-over color. I'm cheap & very low maintenance, so I don't see regular salon trips in my future. I get pretty scraggly before I even break down & have it cut. ![]()
Has anyone tried the root touch up stuff? If you do it yourself (touch up or otherwise), what brand of color do you use? Is it easy to do? Or easy to mess up? I don't want to end up with a weird color or fried hair. Please give me the low-down on coloring your own hair. Thanks!
Re: Questions about coloring your own hair...
My mom has always colored her own hair. I'm pretty positive she uses Loreal Preference. I also used to color my hair on my own as well. I've used a lot of different products, but I've always liked Loreal's hair color.
I do know that the hair color you can buy at grocery stores/Walmart have harsher chemicals, whereas getting it done at a salon or going to Sally Beauty Supply has better products that don't damage your hair as much.
i've been coloring my own hair for years also - i've even gone several shades lighter (my natural color is dark brown/black) with good results - it's really not that hard - especially if you're sticking with your natural color
how quickly does your hair grow? there is NO WAY i could go 12 weeks without a touchup - my hair grows like crazy and the older i get, the more gray that appears -mine appears to be at my temples too, but i have gray all throughout my hair - you can't see it but it's there, so you may want to do all over color anyway instead of just a root touch up kit
i've had my hair colored at Ogle and they are pretty good - i still get my hair cut there regularly - but they are SLOW when it comes to color!!! i just don't have the time (or patience) to sit at Ogle for hours to color my hair when i can do it myself in 30 minutes at home
i've tried several different brands but i'm a Feria girl - i like the way it adds the natural highlights - and i always get compliments on my box color when i go to Ogle
