Babysitting Rates

I'm babysitting an 8 year old boy tomorrow. I have a whole day of crafts and movies set up. Plus he has a broken arm. I'm going to try to keep babysitting around where I live. I have past experience being a nanny in California and in Houston (twins). So what is the going rate for babysitting?

Re: Babysitting Rates

  • I really have no idea what a normal rate is. Around here (on the AF base in Japan) it seems to be between $5-10. I babysat for a 5 mo old the other day and was paid $10/hr (she paid me a higher rate b/c I wasn't a young kid and had experience with kids. I was also the 1st person she'd left her little one with, so I think she was nervous and relieved to find all was well in the end of course.)
  • I pay babysitters that are out of high school and drive $10/hour... high schoolers I pay $8/hour if they drive, and if I have to pick them up $7/hour.
  • Depending on the babysitter and what all the parents are asking them to do (if they want you to cook meals, drive them to activities, etc) $8-$15/hr.

  • I babysit and I usually charge 10-12/hr but I am

    -out of highschool
    -CPR and first aid certified
    -and have many years experience

Have fun! It sounds like you have everything under control.

  • I pay 10-12 an hour depending on how many kids I have here. My babysitters are between 13-16 years old.
  • I get $10 an hour.  I am older, but my experience is limited to infrequent gigs since the parents don't go out too much.

I've found jobs through care.com if you wanted to get set-up with them it seems to be fairly popular around here.  They have one time jobs up to full time nanny positions.
