DH and I are going to Virginia Beach (live in MI) in 2 weeks. DH grew up there so he is familiar with some of the areas but we are still deciding where to stay. We don't want to be in the touristy area along Atlantic Ave but I did find a Best Western that has a private beach for a great price. The address is: 1330 E Ocean View Ave Norfolk, VA 23503-2208. It's between Chesapeak and Beaumont St. I have read mostly good reviews online but a few that aren't good. Anyone familiar with this area and would it be a good place to say? TIA.
Re: Virginia Beach Vacation
I am not familiar with Norfolk too much. I did go there the other day by Town Point Park (they just redid it) and that was a nice area... near Granby St. etc. I don't think there is any beach over there though.
Sandbridge is a more quiet beach area of VB.
I second Sandbridge/Little Island. Not touristy and lots of families. You can probably rent a beach house or similar? I believe the big one in that area is Sandbridge Realty or something similar.
Not at all familiar with the beaches in Norfolk? Wasn't even aware of beaches in Norfolk?
I'm a VB native and live there now. I'm not a fan of Ocean View and would never go to the beach there. If you don't like the Atlantic Ave. area, I'd suggest somewhere along Shore Drive in Va Beach. There are a handful of hotels on the beach, and I like the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel (Shore Drive @ Great Neck). It's going to be more expensive than the Best Western you found, but in a much nicer area.
You could also stay at the Wyndham on 56th St in Va Beach because it's away from the "resort area."
