Kitchen remodel
We're thinking about remodeling our kitchen. We know you can go through Lowes or Home Depot, but we're looking to use someone smaller - not a "corporate"
Has anyone ever remodeled? We're also looking to do this on a budget - its just to upgrade before moving out, its not a luxury kitchen.
Does anyone have any rec's?

Depending on how small a budget you are working with, I have a couple of options. In the last investment property I worked on, I had a tiny budget. I bought the kitchen cabinets from Hoods off of Jefferson for $990 and the kitchen countertops are 2cm granite slab from Home Improvement Outlet again off of Jefferson for right at $500, but this included the sink as well. Throw in an additional $200 for a new faucet and tiled backsplash and I redid the kitchen for less than $1700. This doesn't include appliances (which were an additional $2000 by themselves - range, built in micro, dishwasher, fridge, and garbage disposal).
If you have a bit more room in your budget, I'd recommend Cabinets Flooring and More. They have a line of cabinets by Kabinart that I highly recommend as they are a solid wood cabinet for the price of particle board construction. Additionally, I have heard good things about RSI Kitchens and Bath, but I haven't personally used them.
There are pictures in my nest bio of the kitchen I redid most recently. It's a tiny kitchen and yours is probably bigger, but it will give you an idea of what $1700 will get you.

email me. We just did this in the last year and used an independent guy. I will send before and after photos too. We got almost everything (cabinets, granite slab counters, sink, faucet) at Affordable Kitchens and Baths in St. Charles. Great prices.
