Winter Garden girls?

Does anyone happen to live in Winter Garden? We've been looking at a few houses in the area, and it would be great to talk to a Nestie that is familar with the area and neighborhoods! :)

Sorry, I've been out of town.  I live in the Stoneybrook West area.  Feel free to ask me anything about that area, and I'll try to help.  I don't know much about north WG.

  • I used to live in Winter Garden. ?We were right by Winter Garden Village before the mall was actually there. ?What do you need to know?
  • Former Winter Gardien here also...I loved it there, and would still be living there, but at the time of home buying, who would have known it would have dropped even more! We got a great deal on a house in Clermont, so I am not far from WG.  My DH was also raised in W.G. so any questions, fire away!

  • We are moving to Wintergarden next week! To a neighborhood called Independence, which is very close to Windermere. We decided to move to the area because it is very suburban- the air is very clean (compared to Orlando, where we are now), and it is very safe and family friendly. Our area is surrounded by orange groves. Where are you looking?

  • Thank you for all of the replies! I'll have remember everyone who lives in WG for future questions, too. ;)

What are your feelings on the area north of 50? It seems like everyone has their own opinion. Some say to avoid everything north of 50, others say that there are pockets of good areas surrounded by bad. Since I'm looking for a home to raise my family in, should I stay south of 50?

Also, what are your feelings on crime in the area? I know everywhere in Orlando has it's problems, but I'm curious on what the residents think!

Beachy - I am so, so very jealous that your home search is over. lol I've heard good things about your neighborhood! How long were you searching?

  • I would definitely stay south of 50 but that's just my opinion. ?There are some very cute areas north of 50 near downtown Winter Garden, but it's an older area up there so it's all hit or miss. ?The area south of 50 is much newer and (I think) nicer. ?

The crime is much lower than other parts of the area, but like you said....it's everywhere so as long as you know that, you're in good shape.

I just think this side of town is much nicer. ?It's quieter and the traffic is a lot lighter than anywhere else in town. ?I love it!?

I also would agree that south of 50 is best.  The worst area in Winter Garden is Tildenville off of 545/Avalon Rd.  There is a LOT of crap that goes down there.  There's a subdivision called John's Lake (I think) right down the street.  I'd avoid that area even though the whole area is "south of 50".

We live in the Belle Meade subdivision (Meritage is building there now), and we have several friends that live in Stoneybrook West and Carriage Point (Taylor Morrison subdivision).  We used to live in Stone Creek, which unfortunately is becoming a little rundown already, even though it's surrounded by really nice subdivisions.  The homes around Winter Garden village are really nice, too.

  • try and search for Dillard Elementary district...that is the A school in WG..Massey Elem was slated to close down, but Orange county is no longer shutting them down, and it is the oldest school in WG.  If you get something in the streets closer to Lake Apopka you should be alright, it is "old winter garden" but that is my favorite part of winter garden.  and stay west of dillard...i beleive it is west..
