Dearst mah...

I see in the post below you are thinking about nursing school too? Do you want to complete a BSN or an ADN? Do you have alot of pre-reqs to finish or did time in school before get alot of those done.

I've got a ton of stupid science classes to take. When I was in school before I took astronomy, that's how much I hated science (well, and Biology 101... yet took it pass fail). Chemistry will not be my friend this fall... but somehow I got to do it.

Re: Dearst mah...

  • Right now the plan is to take a CNA course late in the fall.  I'd then apply to an RN program at the local community college for the two year program starting in fall 2010.

I actually have four years of college, I just need to sit down with the woman from the nursing program to see what classes I'll still need to take.

  • The CNA classes are crazy full up here with everyone wanting to change fields and get a job quickly. But it is a good "teaser" towards nursing. And it's stuff you need to know as a RN anyways. I'm mad I have to go take a speech class. Never had to take one where I graduated from... but you'd think some life experiences would give me the credit ;)
  • Look into the ISU accelerated BSN as well.
  • The problem is that I don't particularly want to commute for school.  Too bad Millikin is private/ridiculously expensive.  Maybe I'll try to get a job there to get a tuition break. Wink

  • IT kind of dawned on me that driving ~45 minutes to ISU is alot of gas money... like somewhere around $5k a year. So even though the private college nearby would cost more, it's kinda a wash when one considers the price difference. Student loan interest is tax deductible, gas money is not Indifferent

I also considered the time factor... how long in class until working as well as how stressed one would be in an accelerated program... although I am adding about 7-8 months to graduating, I will be able to work and can handle the course load alot better. This is still about 6 months quicker than a traditional nursing program. Yeah, been thinking about this alot.

  • The main problem with driving is just how much time I'd spend driving. I'll still be working part-time while in school, so that'd be an hour and a half a day I wouldn't get to spend working/doing homework/seeing my husband. I also refuse to get more student loans if I can absolutely help it.  I have enough as it is.  I know that if I'm a full-time student I don't have to pay on mine, but I can't remember off the top of my head how many credits a semester the Richland program is. ((I need to be enrolled 12 credits per semester to not have to pay loans))

On a side note, finally deciding in June that you want to take the CNA course to get into nursing school is much too late.  I called yesterday and am registered for the pre-test for the CNA course starting in October at a technical academy here in town.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I do well and get into the class.  It'll be October - December, giving me plenty of time to apply in the spring for the RN program starting in August 2010.  That would put me graduating in May 2012, at which point I'll be 26.  I'd really love to get into the program ASAP so that I can get in, get out, and find a job.  We want to have children, but are waiting until I'm done with school.

  • We are waiting on the kids thing too... seems like something is always coming up!

No wait list at richland for the RN program... that is fab!
