Publix, BiLo, or Costco Bakery

Hey Ladies, my husband's birthday is Friday and every Friday his coworkers go out for lunch and I wanted to surprise him by bringing a cake or cupcakes for all of them...

1. Do you think this is too juvenile? This is only his second week at the job.

2. I've never purchased baked goods from BiLo, Publix, or Costco.  For those of you who have patronized these bakeries, which do you recommend?

Re: Publix, BiLo, or Costco Bakery

  • Grocery-wise I switch between Publix and Bi-Lo-it depends on what exactly I'm looking for. Seafood and stuff I go to Publix, but for general groceries I just go to Bi-Lo-which works b/c they're right across the street from each other in 5 Forks.

1-No it's not juvenile at all. I think that'd be a great surprise.

2-Of the 2 I shop at, I'd go with Publix Bakery. Nothing against the other 2, but to me, it's always seemed as if Publix puts a little bit extra care (YUMMY-NESS) into their baked goods.

Let me know how it all turns out!!!

  • Thanks!  Long Island Tiffany e-mailed me and recommended Publix too!

  • I don't think that's juvenile at all, but rather very sweet of you!  I 2nd the Publix recommendations.  They have a reputation for great bakery goodies.  Hope you enjoy!
  • I am a big Publix fan.  I didn't even know we had Costco's in SC.
  • Thanks so much everyone!  Publix it is.  I just called and placed my order for 24 green cupcakes!

And Wendy, we have a Costco in Greenville.  I think it opened in Aug. 07.  I only know this because we just moved here in October and it was practically brand new.

  • Hey!!

Just wondered how the suprise went?!?!?!?

  • I'm going to pick up the cupcakes now!  They didn't have the color sprinkles I wanted and they were pretty difficult about it.  I asked if i bought them in their store and brought them to them with the receipt and with them totally sealed if they could put them on the cupcakes and they said no :(  So they iced them and I'm going to try to get the sprinkles to stick on them myself.

I'll take a picture... If anyone knows how to do a picture within the post, please let me know... i've got it down as far as saving it in photobucket... but i'm not sure how to get the image to appear in my post.  Thanks!

  • Hey ladies!  I haven't uploaded the picture I took yet but the cupcakes looked cute, but they were REALLY dry :(  I hate to report it I sound like an ungrateful opinion asker, but just so y'all know, they came from bi-lo on Pellham.  They were so dry, I didn't even finish mine.... I don't think I've EVER not finished a cupcake.  I only had one and DH only had one and they took them back to work and they were all gone but 4 by the end of the day and some people said they were really good, so maybe only a couple of them were burnt/dry?

Anyway they looked adorable, but they weren't moist at all.  Thanks for the recommendations though, next time I'll just try a different publix in the area!

  • I'm glad they looked nice!

Did you get them at Publix or Bi-Lo?  I wasn't sure after reading your post.
