I need help re: traveling SD!
My husband & I will be in Sioux Falls the weekend of June 14 for this "tree competition" thing and we've decided to stay the whole week, traveling around the state.
We know we want to go to Mount Rushmore and Deadwood, but what other things should we do? Are there neat things to do in Sioux Falls itself? What about Deadwood - where to stay, etc.?
Really, any information you could provide a SD virgin would be FAB! Thanks!

Deadwood is cool if you're into Old West history and/or gambling. There's lots of restaurants and hotels -- deadwood.org is a good resource. There are Holiday Inn Express, Best Western and Hampton Inns if you want familiarity. Mineral Palace and Four Aces are where a lot of people stay. If you want to stay in a historic (older) hotel, there's the Franklin and Bullock hotels. I recommend taking a trip to Mount Moriah Cemetery. Gorgeous views from up there, plus Wild Bill and Calamity Jane's graves. Kevin Costner owns a casino called the Midnight Star, and his costumes and stuff are hanging on the walls. Definitely go into Saloon # 10. It's a sawdust on the floors type place.
Else where in the hills, try to go to Crazy Horse Memorial -- it's a mountain carving in progress -- and Custer State Park. They have a wildlife loop you can drive and see buffalo and antelope. For gorgeous drives, go on Needles Highway (highway is a misnomer, it's a winding road) or through Spearfish Canyon.
If you're driving across the state, Badlands National Park near Wall on I-90 is a must-see, too.
DH and I drove across SD last summer (well, across the entire country!). We loved the place! We spent a day in the Badlands, then a couple of days in Keystone. While in Keystone, we went to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park (drove the Iron Mountain Road, which was cool) and Crazy Horse, which was okay. We went through Deadwood on our way to Wyoming and, to be honest, we weren't impressed. It has a lot of casinos, but wasn't what I thought it would be. We didn't stay there for more than a couple of hours. My parents also made the trip (they were a few days behind us) and my dad is big into old westerns, etc. He was disappointed in Deadwood.
