real estate agents

So we finally sold our house in Webster, but had a TERRIBLE experience with our agent.  I know on the Knot people review their wedding vendors-but I wasn't sure how often people used this forum to review other vendors post-wedding.  I am not trying to badmouth her, but I would like to post our experience somewhere so no one else works with her and has to deal with what we had to.  If you have any suggestions, or think this is an OK place to post something, please let me know.

 Thanks!

You can do reviews at Angie's List but I think you have to pay to join. I'd love to hear about your experience since we're in the very early stages of looking at houses.

  • Spill your guts!  I have seen plenty of info on different service providers on here, whether good or bad.  I don't know of a review site for this area other than Angie's List - I would just end up doing it here if I were you.
  • I'm not opposed! Smile

I'm not looking for a house but I truly believe in customer service.  And, when people are crappy, everyone should know about it!!

I had a bad experience w/an agent (who was the mother of my best friend!) and i had to fire her! Thankfully my friend was on my side, but holy cow, that sucked!

  • You asked, so here goes.

We worked Alex Tilford and her son Adam from Webster.  We were selling a house in Webster so we figured since they are from there and lived around the corner that they would be good to work with since they know Webster and the types of houses there.  They were good at the beginning and had excellent suggestions for staging our house, but once they got the listing, they were MIA.  They had open houses, but never gave us feedback.  They knew we'd be moving about a month after we put the house on the market (we left it furnished) and promised they'd take care of shoveling if needed, but never did.  OK fine.  Once we were gone, we NEVER heard anything from them, except when Alex called to tell us we needed to lower the price after 6 weeks.  I asked her why and she said we weren't getting any traffic. I asked her if it was due to the price or just lack of traffic at any house but she said lowering the price by $5k would make the difference so we did it. Keep in mind we'd only owned the house about a year at this point so we were barely breaking even anyway and they knew this. Still no offers.  So we lower it again-she had no other ideas for ways to generate traffic. And I know the market is slow, and it can take awhile, but our house is on a quiet street in Webster with little turnover so when a house goes up, usually there are offers pretty quickly.  We finally get an offer, way below our price, negotiate it up a bit and make the deal even though we were losing money at this point.  The buyer makes ridiculous repair requests (we had just had it inspected a year ago and none of those things were issues then so how could that all change in a year?) and when we ask Alex what we need to do to just get this done, she tells us just to fix everything on the list!  What happened to looking out for our best interests?  So we had to call her daily to get her to stay on top of the negotiation process with the buyer's agent, and she got more difficult as the days went on.  Very short with us, very sarcastic and acting like everything she did was a huge favor.  You are our agent-this is your job!  Meanwhile, the buyer's request post-inspection sat on her fax machine for two days before she even bothered to see it, leaving us 2 less days to negotiate.  The contractor she hired to do some of the repairs overcharged us from his estimate and she did nothing.  We had to stay on top of her every day to ensure the closing would actually happen.  She then announced the week before the closing that she was leaving the country in a few hours and wouldn't be reachable.  And no one ever called us after the closing to say it was done (we signed the paperwork and mailed it back since we had moved).  We never heard from her again-not a thank you card, nothing.  She did earn 3% so you'd think that would mean something but no.  She was honestly b****y, rude, condescending, hard to reach, very impatient with us, and totally unprofessional.  I wish we could get our 3% back because she absolutely did not earn it.  I think a lot of agents just want the listing and then disappear to some extent, but this was a bit much.
