Anyone here from Montgomery?

I will be traveling to Montgomery for a business trip and am looking for recommendations on things to do both during the day and at night.  Restaurants recommendations would be great as well.

 Thanks!

Re: Anyone here from Montgomery?

  • I'm from Prattville which is just a few miles north. If you want to see a show, Alabama Shakespeare Festival is located in Montgomery...don't be fooled, they have all kinds of shows, musicals, you name it, going on right now. Montgomery Zoo is fun. There are many historical sites to visit, our state capitol is one, they have restored it and it's really worth seeing. Little White House of the Confederacy, Hank Williams Museum...if you are into shopping try East Chase off Taylor Road...similar in feel to the Summit in B'ham.Eastdale Mall is the only other shopping spot but it's real average except they have an ice skating rink if you'd like that.  There are countless fun little boutiques all around the Huntingdon College area. There is a tea room that's fun...I cannot remember the name of it. Carrabba's is good if you like Italian and their red sangria is wonderful. Montgomery is full of great restaurants...if you tell me what kind of food you love I may be able to recommend something specific. There are several ladies from Montgomery on this board...help me out ladies! LOL
  • I am in Montgomery.  I think all of Jane's suggestions are great things to do in the day.  Restaraunts:  I love El Rey- it is a little tex mex place in Old cloverdale.  There is also a little pizza place in Old Cloverdale called Tom and Tinos that is delicious!!  At Eastchase there is a place called La Jolla which is very good but more on the pricey side.  There is also a Bonefish Grille which has seafood and is really good.  I hope you enjoy your trip.  If you have any say in where you can stay- aim for the East side of Montgomery.  It is just much safer and closer to everywhere you would probably want to go.

  • I'm from Montgomery, but I don't live there anymore. The pp gave great recommendation. I just want to add that there are a lot of historical places to visit dealing with the civil right era. Most of these places are downtown. There is also the Rosa Parks Museum which is great!

  • Oohh, and what about that neighborhood of all of those houses from the civil war era that you can walk through? I think it's called Historic Alabama or something like that. It's really cool :-)

    It's Old Alabama Town.

Oh and I forgot. There is this place on Vaughn Road called Sommer's Place that has good seafood and Shashy's on Mulberry has wonderful food and pastries.
