S/O: Wegmans Future Locations
Re: S/O: Wegmans Future Locations
I don't think the area is affluent enough to support two Wegmans. I know we probably will never get one in York.
I remember reading an article when they were building the one at Hunt Valley and they said the average household income in the immediate area was more than $140,000. They probably make the most profit from their higher end products (like $20 a pound cheese) and people in more affluent areas like suburban Baltimore and Philly are going to spend the extra money on Gucci cheese. I know I can tell a total difference between the shoppers in Hunt Valley and Mechanicsburg.
Cancer sucks.
This!
They're putting one in Frederick? Wow... I went to college there and never thought I'd see a Wegmans!
I remember hearing right after the Mechanicsburg one opened that they usually have them planned out a few years but holy cow. I had heard from a friend who's relative works/worked at the Mechanicsburg store that someone in management told them an east shore location was a definite but that was before the economy tanked.
I know there was the talk before about both Wegman's and the township being interested in putting one in near the Walmart on 322 but they needed major road improvements first and since that hasn't happened yet
who knows what will happen. I do know there are tons of Hershey shoppers who would go regularly.
So they keep saying
In 2006, it was suppose to be done by 2008 - they haven't even started it yet.
And it is now TBD on the wegmans website :-/
