Close tent camping spots?

I am not a huge camper but all these people talking about 4th of July camping trips has me feeling like it would be a fun, inexpensive, quick getaway. Has anyone been to some good tent camping spots? Preferably within 1-2 hours from Orlando? I found some websites with campgrounds but personal recommendations are much better!

 Thanks!

Re: Close tent camping spots?

  • Hi! I am new here but DH and I camp regularly and we have some favorite places we haunt so I thought I would share them with you. We go to Alexander Springs in Ocala, Lake Louisa in Clermont (which is really ncie but there is no shade--so look out for that), Highlands Hammock, and Hillsborough River State Park. I really enjoyed Hillsborough River because they have their own pool and it's HUGE, and I adored Alexander Springs because of the 72 degree natural spring. All of them have good picnicking spots and lots of wildlife viewing and trails!

    Have fun!

  • I love camping at Ft Wilderness at Disney but we normally have a big group of people w/lots of kids.  I have not gone 'real' camping in years but I think Blue Springs State park would be cool if you can camp there (I want to go see the manatees) :)
  • How "rustic" do you want to get? Do you want some where w/ no facilities, just in the woods?  Shell Key off of Ft. Desoto is awesome- Oh, but you have to have a boat to get to shell key and there is NOTHING..& there is nothing to do but go out on the boat & fish- which is perfect for DH & I. We went for 3 days, it was awesome! ...its just an island... But FT. Desoto does have a campground that has facilities- there is no pool, but its right on the water. One of the sides of the camp ground is "ocean" its actually the channel but its still ocean.

Sebastian Inlet has a nice campground, they also have facilities, one of the sides of the campground has ocean view. I love Sebastian. DH & I camped there for a week.. We did a pop-up camper though, way to hot in august to camp for a week!
