Coming to Vermont and need your help!

Hi Vermont Nesties!

DH and I are coming to New England this fall for a foliage tour and I need your recommendations for where to stay while we are in Vermont. We will have just three days there (I know I know, I need more!) and so I've been sort of considering staying in the Central Vermont area. Where should I stay? Warren? Waterbury? Is Stowe too far north?

Would Montpelier be better?  I am really open to suggestions.  We'd like a great base of operations to explore from. What else should I definitely not miss?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Coming to Vermont and need your help!

  • Also, is Mad River Valley a place to consider as well?

    Thanks!
  • Personally, I thinkStowe is your best bet.
  • Just make sure you know what time you're going, and when peak foliage is in different regions. It can vary greatly! It can be peak in the lower altitudes, but wayyy past peak up near Stowe in the mountains. If you're checking out foliage in Stowe, I'd recommend 1st week in October.

  • I think it depends what you are looking for.  Are you looking for a touristy location/shopping/eating and some nature or are you looking for a place surrounded by nature with a little bit of touristy?  The former would be Stowe, the latter would be more like the Waitsfield/Mad River area...I also really like the Ludlow/Killington area too and would recommend the Echo Lake Inn for low key but nice accomodations.

It's so hard to answer this question b/c it really depends on what you are looking for, when you are coming, where you are coming from, etc...
