Southside Hairstylist Rec?

Ladies, I need your help.  I have tried 2 stylists in the year that I have lived here and none have worked out.  I need a reco from you ladies on a stylist on the southside?

Thanks so much!

Re: Southside Hairstylist Rec?

  • I live on the Southside.  My stylist is on the Southend of downtown though. Meridian Design Group in the Pan Am building.  I go to Ashleigh Ellis and she is fabulous!  I am actually going to see her tonight

She (with an assistant) did all the hair for my wedding too!

  • How is she with color?  We just moved to the southside and right now I'm in between Champaign and Indy so I'm still seeing the girl in Champaign who's great with color and cut.  Any opinions would be appreciated.
  • Thanks for the feedback.  I was hoping to get more replies so I had a few options, I am so frustrated and don't want to have to drive back home to Chicago just for a haircutSad
  • Hello!

A few years ago I went to Robert's in greenwood--but I never had my haircut there, just pedicures, and massages. I liked them, but I did think they were a bit uptight. But they did do very good work. Here is that link:

But, I did get my hair done at Tyler Mason on the westside and LOVED them. It would not be too hard to get there from the southside. Their stylists were great, and a terrific atmosphere. Here is the link for them:

I hope you find something you love!! When I lived in NW Indiana I drove back to Indy for a year before I found a salon I like, so I totally understand where you are coming from! Good luck!

  • Thank you for the information, who did you use at Tyler Mason?
  • I think Robert's is overpriced for what they deliver.

Ashleigh is awesome with color!  If you look at my picture I have several colors blended in.  Her color skills is one of the main reasons I go to her.  Plus, she is great at cutting my hair so it's stylish straight or naturally curly.

  • I have tried a few in Greenwood, and I really like Alaina Wilges at Zen Salon and Spa.  She has cut my hair a couple of times and done highlights, and everything turned out great.

     Good luck!

  • Hello! I'm really sorry, I can't remember who I went to at Tyler Mason--I want to say her name was Tara, but it is approaching three years ago so I may not be remembering exactly right. Also--I didn't have my hair colored there--but I don't have my hair colored anywhere, so I don't have any good info about that. Hope you find someone you love!!

  • Sorry if this response is too late. We moved here 3 years ago from CA and I had the WORST time finding a good hair stylist here that would be comparable to the work I was having done back home.  I am VERY VERY picky about my hair.  I bounced back and forth between getting highlights and color. I have very thick hair, therefore need someone who is good with cuts and can "texturize" out all the bulk in my hair.

I tried several different salons before finally finding one I really liked.  I tried a place on Madison, my highlights turned out orange. I went to Bella Naturale for a little while, but they never got it quite right. For about 8 months now, I have been going to Robert's Salon.  I have been happy with the work there. I see Michelle N. She is good with color and cuts, and if I ever don't quite like something (remember I said I was picky), she will redo it over and over until it works for me.  The only complaint I have is if I call to speak with her and leave a message, you never ever get a call back. That kinda bugs.  But her work is great.  I have hair just below my shoulders. For a cut/style its about $50 and when I do the whole cut/style/highlights is runs about $125.

I know how horrible it feels when you can't seem to find a good hair stylist. I really hope you find someone soon. Nice hair just makes us feel good!  Good luck, if you have any questions let me know.

  • I will look in to all of the rec's.  Thank you ladies for helping me.  I think I look first at the ones closest to me, so it looks like Roberts is my first one to look into.
  • Heavncentt, I sent you a PMSmile
  • Thanks for all the recs.  Not sure if you can tell from my pict but I get all over highlights, usually with two colors.  Love my stylist in Champaign, but I'm not going to drive 2 hours one way unless I have to.  I've gotten multiple compliments from other stylists that were fixing my hair for weddings, etc. on my color, so I know she's doing something right other than just me liking it.  I've got fine hair which provides it own challenges and one thing I love about my current stylist in Champaign, IL is the fact if I bring in a picture that won't work for me she will tell me why it won't flatter me but ask what I like about the style and make suggestions as to what we could do to make a similar overall look.   So I'm a bit spoiled.
