name change-property tax advice needed

I own a condo. ?I changed my last name. ?I want to change the name on the property tax documents. ?The person at the county assessors office said the only way to do that was to do a quit-claim deed to change the deed on the house. ?Is that right? ?I'm still the same person that owns it, with the same SS#. ?I thought a quit-claim was only for situations when people needed their name OFF the deed entirely.

Anyone have experience with this? ??

Re: name change-property tax advice needed

  • I did a quit claim, but I added my spouse to the deed as well as changed my name at the same time. I don't know what to do otherwise, sorry.
  • There is no reason you need to change your name on your property documents. We never changed it when I married and just waited until we moved. There are no issues with having your maiden name on the documents, and you'll probably have a $200+ fee from your mortgage company to do this in addition to county documents. It's a lot of fuss for no reason.
