health insurance

My DH recently lost his job and he has been on a few interviews.  So far, things are going well and I think that he will have a couple of offers this week or next.  These positions do offer insurance, however, it is really only feasible to have DH on that plan.  It is about $700+ per month to add DS and I to the plan!!  This is the job that, other than the insurance issue, would be a great job for him.

If he does get an offer, more than likely, I will need to find a separate insurance plan for DS and I.  Does anyone have any companies that you would recommend (or not recommend) that is a little more reasonable, but will have decent coverage?

I would appreciate any information that you can give me. Thanks!

Re: health insurance

  • we are in the process of getting insurance through Cigna. Their approvals take 4-6 weeks (we are on week 5), but their rates were very competitive. I know from past experience with them that they are a pretty good company to have insurance through. I used them when my first child was born and had good coverage and good c/s.

We are hoping to hear back soon, as I've been without health insurance for 1.5 years due to an uninsurance health risk/problem that they have finally cleared for me.

  • Our company does not offer insurance, so right now we have private coverage through Assurant. We are only using them because they offer maternity benefits. However, if you're not planning on another child anytime soon I recommend contacting United HealthCare's individual coverage company - Golden Rule. I loved being w/ them! Their only downfall was they did not offer maternity coverage, and that's just not acceptable for us right now. GL!
